I have looked at this radio also. The specs seem impressive and the price is not bad especially if you consider that this is a quality product. The capacity to charge from USB is very important. Many preppers fail to comprehend how important communications with the world outside is if something terrible happens. Rumors can kill, information does not. Please give us your review of this product once you have had time to put it through its paces.
ICRCC,
I may have made an error in the wording of the original post. I received an e-mail from Eton that featured this radio. Sorry about the miscommunication. I hope I have not misled others to think I have one of these radios. I would sure like one. I agree the features of this unit look very good indeed. I have a Grundig/Eton unit but it is not this one. They do build quality radios. But I will have to wait til the Autumn at the earliest before I can expand my radio collection, or I will be in the doghouse!!!
I hope this clears this up. I do not own this radio, if I did I would write a review.

No you did not make the error, not at all. We don't want you in the dog house. What I meant to say was once you get one I hope you will give us all some info. 😉
You can always apply the tactic that my husband does. Pretend what you want is a really, really expensive item..bring home brochures, download information, talk about nothing other than this wonderful really expensive item, and then when you spend far less you look like a hero. S.O. I am on to your little tricks!

The Grindig G3 is a good radio. Small, light and covers all bands.

You can also get a book that lists frequencies, stations, locations and best times to receive them. The one you show is a good radio but not really portable at 5+ pounds and large. Also uses D cell batteries. I have all my equipment use one battery type. Transceivers, flashlights, radios etc all are AA batteries. Interchangability is key.

Being able to hear is great, but how many of us consider how important it may be to also be able to pass on information or call for aid? Deleau, you might want to consider 2-way if you are thinking of contacting a ham club - they will offer lots of assistance with your license.

Hi Ham and Eggs, I am a new prepper, though I've been a farmer over 5 years now. I am hoping to find out more informartion on what kind of communication devices I should get and where to learn to use them. I've been thinking of learning how to use a ham radio and evenutally getting my own. I would not need anything extravagant, just something to communicate with when the SHTF

Welcome Ddoiron and greetings from Northern Ontario. Communications is a popular topic here and I am sure that you will find the answers you are looking for.
I have this exact one i got at the source last week for 149
The little knob comes off on the side easily, but i just pop it on. Its because i tuck it in by the mattress in my bug out trailer. Functions very well. Juices up withe the usb solar panel i have fine. Good reception lots of radio options. Also can be a small guitar amp.
Super light 1 lb or less? Not heavy
The ebook text reader is a no good option as the words seem to jumble inappropriately line brakes, on screen. Other than that id buy another if i could.
My crank shortwave radio went into my bugout backup bag after i got this sweet one
