Also, also of my potatoes have sprouted , so I need to figure something better for next year .
Last year I stored them in the laundry room which is in the basement, but I've had mice so was not able to
store them in there this year
Hi Goldie, Nice catchup, potato's can up really well so you can store fewer and therefor control where they go if there are fewer of them, I look forward to hearing more about your month as it goes by.
As for myself, plugging right along, no opps, everything has been doing well and is homemade, my bean sprouts are lovely fresh, I have more coming as well as radish and broccoli planned for next week, the radish are home saved and dirt cheap to use and the mung beans are from bulk barn and are much cheaper then most other buying sprouts.

It looks like I won't be able to do the challenge while I am working. In speaking with both my insurance company & my social worker they both thought it would add more stress - people at work often comment on what I would eat before I went on stress leave and I don't need any nasty comments my first few weeks back. 🙁

What is wrong with people?!@ Don't they have something better to do? I wish you the best!!!!
Back from mom's and we ate from her pantry while there. Yesterday for my hubby's breakfast and my lunch (he is on night shift) we had pasta/sauce and salad, during the day I had a couple of apples with almonds, for supper I had more salad, English muffin, apple...I am trying to lose weight and keep to a 1500-1700 cal day.
Sorry to hear this old school, good luck at going back to work and hope it goes smoothly.
Lgsbrooks- Good for you, We have been plugging away, I am enjoying the challenge in some ways, but in others, I am certainly craving more fresh food, and I also did a little butchering so that I could have fresh meat in the house, sometimes you just need to work with fresh meat, instead of frozen or canned..

Day 13: Brunch-2 egg omelette, 2 slices turkey bacon
Supper-2 cups salad, 6 slices fried garlic coil sausage
Hubby is sick with the flu.
I have bought a Grain Mill and some Quinoa this week, but am not eating the new Quinoa as I already have enough for this month .
Did not want anyone to think I was cheating if you read the thread: what did I add this week .
I have decided to try some of my dehydrated and freeze dried this month while on the March Challange.
Need to know if I need more of this / that , if the product is worthy , or find some other product to have on hand.
So far I have tried the Thrive freeze dried bananas, and NOT what I expected. 🙁 I need to buy
an Excalibur dehydrator. My holdup on this is whether to get a 5 tray or a 9 tray. The 9 tray looks HUGE
in the video I watched on youtube. From looking at images on websites, I thought they were much smaller.
But trying the freeze dried, has moved the need for a Dehydrator up the list.
While I have lots of tins of canned fruit , once you open them, if there is no hydro
you need to eat it up quickly without refrigeration. Such is the need for a dehyrator and also
I think I need to buy more mason jars in smaller sizes as while the bigger sizes are good for dry goods,
again, once you open a big size if it has fruit in it , again, hydro is needed. Yes I have hydro, but I am thinking
ahead.
have the 9 tray and could use another dehydrator still! lol Day14-: Brunch-2 salad, 2 English muffins with salami, apple, supper: Homemade gravy/meatballs & fries
Have the nine tray and so worth it, there are days, I really wish I had another one, so good to have. butcher out some guinea fowl to have "fresh meat" in house, the lack of fresh is starting to bug me, but otherwise just kicking right along, given the time of year, you shoud be able to make a cold room, or are you thinking ahead and if it was summer?
http://livingmydreamlifeonthefarm.wordpress.com/
just thinking of ahead with no power, outside temperatures are hard to control and food might freeze at night and thaw in the day
or so from april to november being without power would be no outdoor fridge also . March is up and down as spring approaches.
For a few days I have not been able to log on. I had lunch out the other day with my mom when she came into town as she has no immune system & my hubby was sick in bed so she could not come to my home. Had a bad day yesterday too, bad news at the doctors and I'm an emotional eater...today I had a ginger blast juice for breakfast, 2 eggs and one piece of toast for lunch, radishes and coleslaw, green apple for supper.
Made a rice lunch today with leftover cutup meat, some frozen broccoli, and
" dehyrated carrots " I wanted freeze dried carrots but there doesn't seem to be any available
I find the dehyrated stuff cut up too small. These are tiny itsy bitsy things.
This just confirms I need a dehydrator " ASAP " so I can make carrot coins and potato slices
and everything else.
I soaked the dehyrated carrots first and then put them in to cook along with the rice.
Was not sure I needed to soak first ,but that is what I did.
The colour of the dehyrated carrots are very pale.
I eat rice and carrots every day , and while I use frozen carrots, long term storage, frozen stuff is
not long term food storage, and you never know when you might loose hydro. So it is not good to
put all your produce in the freezer only.
day 23-yesterday
Breakfast: cranberry water with apple cider vinegar & lemon
ginger blast /2 apples
Lunch: cranberry water as above
2 apples/salad
supper: eggs/fried potato (hubby)
cranberry as above/green juice
My challenge is going well in someways and bad in others, I am doing fine in terms of eating most everything from the pantry but I caved a tiny bit as well, I got fresh salad greens and a bag of apples, I just didn't feel as good without them and I really stuggled on this but in the end decided that if I kept everything else the same, I would just own the fact that I got greens/apples and move on..
Any normal march around me, I would have had some fresh greens in the yard but not this year.. (we got another six inchs of snow yesterday) and while I have no doubt that I would have been fine eating from the pantry, I was getting real cravings for green like you would not believe.
