Stupid question. My printer will only do manual 2 sided prints, meaning I have to hand feed each sheet twice.

I was thinking it would be faster to just print the whole thing off and then take it to a place to get them to copy them on both sides. Any thoughts or recommendations?

That doubles the price..
take the electronic documents to the printers and ask them to print them book style.

check your printer settings some will allow book style, double sided printing, the program will print out then tell you how to take the paper out of tray and put them into the printer again. eg, upside down revered into the printer feed tray

edit; look in advanced settings, as well look into the printing settings in Word or Excel and see what they say.

You can also email the documents to the printer and pick them up all done. UPS store for example.

look in the settings for an option to print odd and even pages. Print the whole doc either of them and then take the stack of paper and put it in the paper tray and print the other one. You'll have to make a few tests before you'll make it the right way. I used to make a sign on the paper so I would know which way it should go. Get ready to ruin a few sheets but it is doable if your printer has that setting. Good luck

My experience is that the manual double sided option is fine for shorter documents, say 20 sheets or less.
The problem with bigger ones is that the printer will often pick up 2 sheets or jam or something else.
Household printers just weren't intended to print large documents.
For all my larger stuff, I go to a local copy center, as Anita mentioned, the UPS Store does this, but also Staples and such.
Tell them how you want it and they will take care of the rest.
Usually, they will give you several options for binding, such as spiral, cerlox, perfect bind, etc...ask them what they can do and have them show you what each one looks like.
If you want, they can just print it on 3 hole paper and you can put it in your own binders.
You could probably expect to pay about 3 cents per page(not sheet) for plain black...color will cost you MUCH more, somewhere around 25 cents per sheet.
Here is a tip...if you have a document that is 8 1/2 x 11, ask them to shring it down to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2.
This means that they can print 2 pages on each side of the sheet and save you some money, meanwhile, the size is still big enough to be manageable and readable.

How about this as an alternative. Pick up an "E-Reader" and just save all your material to it as well as a back up? I was looking at doing the same thing because I also have a load of info on my computer that I'd hate to lose. In the end though I just didn't have the room to print it all out. I decided that a laptop suited my needs better though so I have all my info on it as well as backed up on a few flash drives. And the library continues to grow!

Thanks for the answers

Denob I was hoping you would answer as I believe you printed out as much as I plan to 🙂

As for an e-reader, well I am a little old fashioned and like the feel and ease of paper. I get really nasty head aches if I spend too much time looking at a screen. It would be much easier to read when waiting in line or waiting for an appointment.

Sorry I can't recommend someone in your area, I only know 1 printer around Ottawa, and they really don't do small cash jobs.
But if you want a few thousand copies of something, let me know and I'll fix you up!

Staples costs $.99 per page for colour if you print it yourself and $.40 per page if you have them do it, plus a $2 charge. B&W is cheaper, but no where near $.03 per page. It's cheaper to have them do it if you're printing off more than a few pages. They sometimes won't do it right away if you ask them to print it, so you can submit your print job electronically, or just pick it up later.

Denob, where are you getting such good prices on printing?

Copie Express stores in and around Montreal.
a buck a page for color is robery.

Here is another tip, which is a trick I used today...
Most inkjet printers have a 2 sided option.
They will print even pages out and instruct you to flip the stack and reinsert the paper.
Then they print the odd pages on the back.
Sometimes the printer will pick more than 1 sheet and bugger up the print order.
To help with this print only 20 pages (10 sheets) at a time.
I don't know why, but I rarely have problems when I do it this way.
Also, when loading paper, fan it out first.
I do this by using the same method that commercial printers do...
Hold the paper by two corners...bend the corners up and pinch the sheets together.
Pull back to flatten out the sheets...you will see the fan out in the middle of the sheets.
This puts air between the sheets and reduces static, preventing or reducing the double picking.

I borrowed one of my mom's printers to try the 2 sided thing.
