Hello everyone.

I've been doing some searching on the internet, and am having difficulty finding a retailer (local or internet store) that sells bulk ammunition (crates of 500, 1000, etc). Currently all I have to deal with is 7.62x39 and .45 acp, which are relativley easy to find bulk ammo with a very low price tag so that caliber is not an issue.

My question is this: I'm looking to expand my compliment of fire arms to include other calibers, such as 30-06, .270 rem, .308, etc. I havnt decided which caliber exactley, but I do plan on having others available. So where is a good place to purchase these less common calibers in bulk? Preferably cheaply. I'm not really interested in shelling out $25-$30 for a box rounds.

Any ideas?

See you all after.

Buggie - I've been trying to drive the price of my .270 ammo down by buying bulk, but I haven't found anything yet either. So, if you can track down somewhere I can get bulk .270 in Canada, I'll kiss you on the lips! 😆

Somewhat related - has anyone shipped bulk ammo? I was checking out that SMS deal from Marstar and wondered what it would cost to ship 1440 rounds across Canada??

From personal experience you will find ammunition in bulk lots ONLY in military calibers. IE .223, 9mm, .45 acp, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, occasionally 30 06, etc. Anything else is a hunting round and will sell in boxes of 20.

JAB is correct. 30-06 in surplus is rare. 308 (7.62 x 51) is the way to go for both surplus and plentiful, quality hunting ammo. If you are looking for something closer to 30-06 power, perhaps 7.62X54R might interest you. Surplus russian rifles and ammo in this calibre are easy to come by (check out the SVT 40). Check out the sponsoring vendors in the Canadian Gun Nutz website. Lots of choice, great pricing and top notch service.
For bettersafe's question, it is approx 75 dollars (or less if you are closer to MARSTAR) to ship the ammo crate across the country. the shipping on my MARSTAR SKS deal was 100 dollars (including the cost to ship the rifle).
Hope this helps

Glockman1 - yeah, that's about what I figured. It would be cheaper for me to go my local gunstore and pay $200 for a case of ammo and $200 for the SKS - but no shipping.

I also ordered the sks/ammo combo from marstar, along with some stripper clips and other accessries. I asked for free shipping and I got it. Never hurts to ask!

For the most part bulk ammo is only an option for current or recent military issue calibres. Most hunting ammo falls outside of this umbrella as there were no massive POMCUS sights of this stuff littering Europe. This is not a reason for the ammo being surplus, but a litmus test for which rounds will be more available in bulk.

I bought the M305/7.62x51 combo from CanAm and love it. But where is all the surplus 7.62 now? Does anyone know who stocks it?

Norinco in 7.62x51 is available in bulk. There isn't much of anything else out there.

I'm no reloader, but there are guys here who are, I'm sure. Do you happen to know if Norinco's product is steel cased, or brass?

The VAST majority of Norinco is steel cased. The occasionally make some brass cased reloadable ammunition for special accounts. They did some for I believe Singapore a number of years ago. It is few and far between.

Funny thing, I was at an M-14 clinic today and a guy there had bought a case of Norc ammo. Brass cased and it all came linked for an MG. I traded him everything I had on me ( 50 rounds) for an equal amount of the linked stuff. No reason beyond it's cool.
Probably this stuff - out of stock.

Brass Cased Copper Jacketed Berdan Primed 147 grain M80 Ball Non-corrosive 5 round linked New, very high quality, manufactured for Singapore but never delivered.

I also heard there's a new shipment of Norc shorty M-14's coming very soon.

you cannot buy bulk ammo in Canada.you can in the US,but I dont recemend trying it.I sugest sticking to commen calibres,12gage,30-30,270,30-06,.22.and learn to load your own ammo. Its really not that hard .A little pricey to start.you have to buy loaders for 12 gage, and seperate loaders for what ever caliper rifle you choose. You can go to your local gun store and ask about makeing your amo.If you stick to common calibers,it maybe easier to find amo in a pinch.you can leagally buy all the components exept black powder, and bring it over the border.you can buy black powder in your local gun store.hope I have been some help

HMMMmm... I don't know where you are getting your information but you are completely incorrect. It is perfectly possible and legal to purchase bulk ammunition in Canada. At this time 7.62x39, some 7.62x51, 7.62x54, .223 and 12 gauge are all avaliable. If you are talking about hunting calibers then you are correct.
