Check out one of our recent blog posts. "Dispelling the Prepper's Myth of the 'Bug Out.'"
Get to talking with any preparedness minded person for any amount of time and the words "bug out" are sure to escape their lips at some point. For anybody who might not be familiar with the term bug out, what i am talking about is the idea that when something catastrophic happens, you grab your beans and bullets and head for the hills to ride out the storm.
While that is a very romantic image; living off the land, you against the world, I fear it is much more "Hollywood" than reality. Don't get me wrong, I love a good episode of "Survivorman" or "Man v.s. Wild" as much as the next guy, but the fact is most of us can't light a fire by rubbing sticks together with our toes while building a small cottage that is lashed together with our own eyelashes and back hair...

Have a look at this post: The Second Biggest Mistake in Preparedness and Bug Out Bags. Here's an excerpt:
Then one day, one fateful day, you decide; "I'm going to practice a bug out." You put your bag in the car, hit the open highway, stop the car on the side of the road to hike into your uber secret prepper cabin (you had this all planned because you read my other article Dispelling the Prepper's Myth of the 'Bug Out,' and actually had a system in place instead of wandering aimlessly into the bush. Bonus points there!).
Then you put your bug out bag on your back and... uh oh...
The internet lied to you! You can't carry this behemoth! But you're a survivor, you will soldier on! So you push through the pain. Six hours later, two hours after sun down, you stumble into your cabin wheezing like a steam engine with a cow stuck in it's boiler stack. Then you realize you only did half a mile per hour coming in.
What went wrong!?...
