4th evening using this heater, testing it really. Thought I would have found some issues or had some irregularities but no, this thing just seems to be running trouble free. I have found 1.2 hz to be just the sweet spot for low heat, it doesnt cook me at that level, yet still puts out a surprising amount of steady heat. If run for 12 hrs at that setting, the fuel consumption is 1 liter.
I am almost looking forward to some cold weather so I can really see how this thing performs.
1 degree out side right now and my down stairs is a solid 20 C, the up stairs 22 C.
Edit; So from 4 days of testing I have a rough feel for how much heat this thing can put out. At .9 hz, and keep in mind this thing goes up to 5.5, I can just keep my hand on the 3 inch dia 30 gauge galvanized pipe I used to duct the hot air into the downstairs 21 x21 sqft room. At 1.2hz the only way I could keep my hand on the hot air pipe would be for a bet for money, and maybe not even then, at 1.4 hz I dont think I could keep my hand on the pipe, and by 1.6 hz I am sure I would have burns on my hands if I tried, hot air temperature must by greater than 60 C.
I am certain this little heater could keep my downstairs warm enough through a typical winter if I had at least 2 more air outlets (for 3 total), Problem with just having one outlet is just way to much heat coming out in one spot. I will likely have to stop using it at some point and switch to my wood stove just because I wont feel comfortable having so much high temperature air coming out a single outlet vent.

Look what I found in my tickle trunk..
Picked it up years ago from the re-store for something like 50.00 bucks. Guess what? that central cooper pipe is 3 inches. Perfect for hooking up to a Diesel air heater and having hot water on demand. Next years project..
5th evening testing this heater. Nothing much to add, it just ticks along blowing out heat..

We looked at power pipe when we did our plumbing reno. $50 was a steal.
I now have ignition of the garage heater, testing begins.

I am expecting the coldest night so far, frost warnings for the country. I have both the house heater and the garage heater running, 0 C right now. Both set up to burn a liter over night.
The garage is small, I think 22 x 22 so about 500 square feet total, and only r 12 walls, r 20 roof. So the garage will not hold heat as well as my house.

I am happy as hell with these little heaters. I am now stocking up on Diesel fuel, had a barrel of the stuff put away for some of my diesel engines, but now I am going to build my stock up to maybe 6-8 barrels just to keep on hand for heating. I wont go crazy, just add a barrel a month or maybe every two, or so. Its like money in the bank, wont go bad and I will use it (better than a RRSP as I can see it). Had some visitors ( local) over in the last couple weeks, everyone who has seen these things in action says they are going to buy one. Like me, few were aware of these things before and how affordable they are.
Even on solar as I am, these things use nothing for power, maybe a amp for the blower motor. I easily can run one for the house and one for the garage without even noticing the draw. If you are off grid you need to take a look at these things, they open up all kinds of possibilities.
Even if you are on grid and I am thinking of people in trailers, -30 , -40 often can bring about frozen water pipes and cold floors when such periods become extended. With one of these you could dump in a gallon of diesel and let it run blowing in hot air under the skirting keeping everything from freezing and the floor warm for very little cost.
My only other experience with diesel heating, or fuel oil heating was back in the 1970s, and that was in Victoria where it rarely was below 0 c. But if my memory holds, no way was the oil burner I was using then, as efficient as these things are.

First problem, but I did expect this. A little diesel leak from the fitting on the tank. The tank is crap, thin walled, and when the fitting was installed they crushed the o ring, I seen this when I went over the unit and put a little goop around the fitting hoping that would seal everything, and it did for many days but slowly the odd drop of diesel leaked out. So this tank goes in the burn pile and I hooked up a proper 20 liter diesel jerry can to the fuel line, and this jerry can now sits beside the heater. This all is temporary, This winter is just testing everything, and if I decide to keep using this a proper metal fuel tank will go outside and a proper steel fuel line will be run to the heater.

Picked up a hundred liters of diesel tonight. 87 cents a liter, not a bad price. I would like cheaper of course but I cant complain. I may check with UFA and see what home heating fuel is going for.

Any plans to try alternative fuels? Waste motor oil?
Any plans to try alternative fuels? Waste motor oil?
Yes, in time I will.
Looks like I can buy home heating oil for 86 cents a liter but I was told that there is a government number I can register for and then I can buy for 70 cents a liter. I will look into getting registered.

Another 100 liters of diesel put away

And another almost 100l put away. Good time to be stocking up, Diesel is 87 cents and regular gas is 89 cents right now, I hope it keeps falling that will bring my average cost down.
This heater has been working perfect, we have not had cold days yet, just overnight lows down to 0C. Using next to nothing for fuel so far, It just heats the sitting area in the basement where I spend 90% of my time when I am in the house. Basements always feel cold first going into winter, but so far this little heater just running on a low setting for 12-15 hrs a day keeps the sitting area washed in a nice warm air flow right at my feet.
Next week temperatures are forecast to go negative.
Right behind the sofa I have floor to ceiling windows something like 6 feet by 10 feet of glass. I had a fool hen fly right into one of the window panes, broke one layer of glass. I have the replacement window here but I have not found the time to install it, so I am expecting to have a good bit of cold air coming off this single pain of glass this winter.

Testing this unit further and by the time I up the setting to 3hz or above, but even at just 3 hz I am being cooked. Its uncomfortably hot sitting on the sofa, in fact sitting anywhere from about 4 feet wide from the air outlet all the way out to 8 feet (going by the ceiling tiles) from the outlet. This just isnt going to work with a single heat outlet when the cold weather comes. As much as I just dont want any more demands on my time until the snow flies it looks like I must add at least one more outlet ( 3 more would be perfect) or else I wont be able to bump the heat setting up when the real cold comes. First world problems, dont shed a tear for me.

Well the cold came sooner. -6 to -7 and dropping, this is a evening where I would have had the fire going. I have the door to the staircase going upstairs closed so the heat stays downstairs. This little heater is keeping the main room 21x21 toasty warm, then the heat rolls down the hallway, to warm a bathroom and bedroom, all other rooms have there doors closed so I am estimating about 650 700 sqft being heated comfortably (so far). I am in short sleeves.

Unexpected benefit, I usually hang the wash to dry but today set a drying rack in front of this air outlet, placed the clothes from the washer on the rack and hit high on the diesel heater. I now have a clothes drier! everything done in about 1.5 hrs. (the heavy jeans took 2hrs)
It is looking like a neighbour wants one of these heaters for her 12 x16 foot out building. May be wanting me to install it with ducting for even heat distribution. Is currently using propane but doesnt like the humidity that propane adds to the room. So I may not be the only one using one of these out here soon. If she has me go ahead and install it I will be doing it very different than I have done in my home. Everything will be outside. I will take pictures.
Holly shyt, I just had a epiphany. These things would be great for those off grid who wish to dehydrate their garden produce in the fall, I have been using my downstairs propane stove, but it is not ideal, size is limited, and propane adds humidity to what you are trying to dry, and commercial electrical driers use lots of electrical power (lots) ok in the summer, but may not be in the fall (if on solar), where as I can set one of these heaters to blow dry hot air for 24 hrs using only ( .8 x.02x60x60x24=1.38 ) 1.38 liters of diesel. Thats like one dollar at todays prices for diesel (in Alberta), Oh god, now another project for next year...like I need anymore projects
