This is a concept bike I have been building for the last few years, off and on. Its roughly inspired by the Viet Cong Peoples Truck or Push Bike that won the Vietnamese War against the worlds most Industrial army. It was also inspired by several homeless peoples bike set ups I had seen along the way. I did a popular youtube vid on Apocalypse Specific Bicycles that got over a hundred thousand views. Im preparing to re make the series and want to finish up some new bikes, trailers and push carts. My other bike is a quality bike rebuild turned into an Extracycle. I wanted to build an alternative to the extra cycle, a poormans extracycle that didn't require a frame extension, using baskets that most people could improvise. I wanted it to be able to be grossly overloaded and pushed up hills, road down. A Peoples Truck. Why carry all that weight on your back when we have already invented the wheel to triple the load? It needed a flat platform on the back so people could load large back packs or boxes on the back...and just for fun, I did it up in Plastic Army Man Chic for the Tacticool Tykes.(Don't worry. I don't recommend doing that. Not Grey Man) Its hard to see from the picture, but you will notice a pole that slips in and out of the handle bar. This is so you can hop off the bike, slip it in place and push the bike in a more agronomical position without leaning into or getting caught up in the bags plus it gives you more strength and control. If you are walking it up a mountain for most of the day...or pushing it through muddy trails...its a very useful upgrade...and slightly genius if you will allow me to be mildly megalamaniacal. :ugeek:
Unlike my previous bike, this was built on a cheap a$$ed bike from a big box store. It was rusty, bright red, no working breaks and weather cracked tires. I just needed a disposable, escape bike to leave in the city...and had too much time on my hands over the winter...and I got a bit carried away. I built it for the new youtube vid so I could better describe a few ideas I had tried to explain to viewers but didn't do a great job. Better that they actually see it and understand...like that you can still hang regular bike bags off the sides of the baskets.
Now I am on to My next project. Im rebuilding a stripped down Baby Jogger I recycled from the garbage, into a cargo push cart that can carry 2 large back packs, or tools around the farm and garden, or firewood or water jugs. I had a good Omen yesterday on this project. While visiting town, a homeless recycler passed me, pushing a...Stripped Down Baby Jogger, overflowing with recyclables. I smiled and knew I was on the right track. Always go to the Real Survival Experts. No Money. No Car. No Gas. No Problem.
I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.
Does it come with handlebar end tassels? I'm always up for cool looking accessories 😉
Nice project C5!
Tactical Tassels. Check!

This sort of bike could work well now ( before shtf ) for people wanting to grocery shop and run errands and need such a cargo bike,
that way the bike is in use and working.
I love your idea and what you've done !
Is it fairly adaptable, is it easy to remove various baskets you do not have an immediate need for ? Are they clamped or velcro straps ?
Very inspiring , thank you for sharing this . Is it fairly adaptable, is it easy to remove various baskets you do not have an immediate need for ? Are they clamped or velcro straps ? What exactly is the cable that looks like telephone cord functioning as ?
Pretty wild - well done 🙂

FYI, This is my X-tracycle. It needs some work still but this is the high point of this technology.
The baskets on the other bike are permanently mounted. I have 6 bikes. Just like rifles, each has a specific job.
The wrap is rope. It mainly protects the paint...but its a supply of rope on demand for all your rope tying needs.
I'm half done the push cart and will try to post it here when its done

Cool stuff. Was just looking at a bunch of bike stuff online earlier today and then saw this thread. Thinking of building up some bikes this spring to complement the ones I already have.
Looking forward to seeing your new YouTube vids when you get them posted.
Thanks Joe. That's weird. I wish I was a computer geek instead of Low Tec geek. Where did you find it?
Here is the story of the development of the X-tracycle. Its a bit hippy but truth is were you find it. I like the idea of why they developed to deal with a single track. Most paths are single track.

OOPs. I think I misread. You probably saw it here. I found my previous stuff in very unusual places. Australia, Greece...and weirdly on a Sara Palin support site . That was super creepy. Once you put an idea out in the world, you never know where it will end up. Preppers are collectors of threads of knowledge.

Yeah, I had been looking at various bike websites and doing some thinking about building a custom trailer. Made me think of your old video series and after that, I pooped on here to see what was new on the message boards and all.
My apologies for going all retro on you...But...I stumbled on this today. Im not sure how few Sca fans there are out there (probably, not many).... but I used to bump into the lead trumpet player of this band in many of my travels. Historical rambling for me. Motivational survival music for you.

That's awesome. I'm glad I'm not the only one prepping a bugout bike.
I have to admit though, After riding to Mississauga and Hamilton from downtown Toronto on a mountain bike, I've since repented and have recently purchased a proper road/touring bike, 25.5 inches, very tall, with 36 spoke thin wheels.
I just have to install a new cassette this weekend, pick up a few more tools, some new tire tubes, then I'm gonna giver a go.
In the end the mountain bike was haggard. I didn't think it made much of a difference, and yes it is much faster then walking, but my god, the difference with a road bike is astounding. It's be great for riding into town to pick up supplies, but for going town TO town it was a little ROUGH.
I'll be sure to post pictures. Can I use this thread C5?
