It should but it will have to be a head shot

I find that a pellet rifle is more to slow an animal down. It knocks the wind out of it or wound it so that you can run up to it to wack it with a stick. Hope that helps.

This is the one I'm looking at http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/Airguns/AirRifles/PRD~0755033P/Benjamin+.22+Air+Rifle.jsp?locale=en
Since these are rabbits I'm raising the shot would be at about 2" from their head.

Might work but it won't be very quick or pretty. Use a .22 rimfire or:

cervical dislocation

Thanks I'll have to try it that way when it comes time to do them. It looks pretty easy with the broomstick method.

A 22 would be overkill for that job. It would cut right through....and go through a few more rabbits

I should have been more clear - I used to hunt rabbits with .22 shorts. They would work fine, better than low powered pellet gun.

A .22 is out got no PAL. I've been just looking for a way to do it so I don't have to try and break their neck.
What about using a crossbow with blunt heads or a 50# recurve with blunt heads.
The recurve bow I have so I wouldn't have to buy one.

ya, like the Perfesser, I should have made myself more clear. 22 is perfect for hunting Wabbits. Way too much for putting up against the head of the Easter bunny in bondage. A maxed out pellet rifle should do the trick. The cross bow is even more overkill. It will take Bugs head right off and ruin a perfectly good bolt...if you can even get it out of the floor boards again. Same goes with the bow as arrows are really expensive and easy to destroy. Pellet in the head followed by a stick to the head should do the trick. If you don't have the stick at hand, don't fire the pellet. It may seem savage but far less traumatizing than realizing you messed up then having to stomp on Fluffy or scraping out Mr Buggsy brains from the grooves in your rifle stock

A good pellet rifle yes but the sub-500 fps I'm not so sure is going to do the job. Regardless of how you dispatch the rabbit, get your PAL anyway.

a pellet rifle below 500fps is not the best thing for rabbits as well you may find even with some birds and small game it is limited, but a good head shot especially an eye shot would do it in, I often wound and chase and give more shots as needed, sometimes a lot; for rabbits if you can hide, tree stand and get close enough a sling shot is often my best recommendation as the objects are larger and offers more ability to crush there skull or just knocks them right out; I do recommend having a sling shot or bow or crossbow and make sure to have extra bands, strings, arrows or bolts. None the less i have 2 in this low powered category mostly for trade but will work if needs be and still run to shot from time to time, both have scopes, I also own 1 high powered pellet rifle at 800 fps without a scope. The high powered requires a PAL or FAC, the newer high powers are awesome, up to 1500fps and capable of killing a beaver. The newer ones are even cheap at around 429 buck at cabela's. Another thing to consider is picking up a variety of ammo and testing which one your rifle likes best and offers the best groupings. I really like crossmen round nose, but do have some pointed. As always practice, practice, practice and practice before going out for your hunt just to make sure your in the zone, and know what your pellets are doing, especially at below 500 fps because the wind and elevations effect the pellet a lot more then one would think. As well consider picking up a bunch of snaring wire. I used to snare a ton of rabbits when I was younger and it is very effective in the winter as their tracks give there travelling routes away and all you have to do is check your trails once a day. Hope this has helped you a little; best of luck on your kills

There was a Swiss made a pump lever pellet rifle that shot at 625fps, but it was banned from Canada. 👿

i wonder why they would ban a 625 fps one when you can give your pal number to cabelas and order a 900 fps .22, 1200 fps .177 or 1500 fps .177. you can probably still get that 625 fps somewhere with your pal card. i have a 495 fps .22 cal and it will kill rabbits and birds under 20 yds. fyi cci .22 LR HP's are 1260 fps, cci stingers are 1640 fps and cci short are 710 fps
