I want to start a list with Preppers id's and what they are willing to trade both now and in a SHTF situation. I'll start:
Greenguy: SHTF situation: items: solar panels, inverters, batteries, wiring, etc... skills: tech assistance for items, other handyman skills
Farmgal-Barter items- Farm related food, plus a whole host of other things I have put away for barter that I am not going to write out, but just to give an idea, I buy every single cast iron fry pan at the farm sales I have, so I have lots of barter cast iron or I have lots of fry pans for those folks that might or might not show up at my door step.
Skills-Hunting, Gathering, Fishing, Butchering, Leatherwork, Gardening, Basic Vets Skills, Basic Birthing Skills, Both Basic Medical Skills and some more detailed medical skills, I have a homemade baby incubator with oxgen set up for small farm babies, but it could be used for human in a pinch. Bullet making and or reloading skills, Hair cutting skills, Basic Blacksmithing skills, knife sharpening (we have the foot pumping wheel for the larger ones) Wine and Vinager making skills, Sewing, Knitting, Lucet (rope making)skills, Wool skills from raw to felting, Canning, Drying, How to use and cook "odd bits" or snout to tail cooking skills, basic building skills, Log skidding with draft animal power skills, Draft animal training and teamster, Dog trainer for tracking/Hauling/Sheep.
Dh has a number of very useful skills but I won't speak for him..

Second time trying to post this....
ATM I don't have the time to barter skills and not much in the way of goods worth bartering. Its been so long that I have done some stuff that my skills are a bit rusty or I would need a "recipe" book to do them.
However here are a few of my skills:
cooking, canning, dehydrating, sewing, needlework including beading, knitting and crocheting, gardening with small landscape construction, wood working - carving, chip carving and smaller projects, furniture refinishing, soap making, paper making, fish /fish tanks. Other things I have the knowledge but no longer the strength to do.
mmmm...that's all I can think of atm
Well Greenguy I think a barter list is a great idea. Although I'm interested only in now rather than later. In your list you have included solar panels, inverters, batteries. How about some specs? What's high on your list of wants and desires? What goods are you looking for?
Lets barter !
Oldschool you noted fish and fish tanks in your list of skills. I have a couple of tanks with quite a few fish of a few different varieties. Some of the fish are not small and eat quite a lot. Should the SHTF I have an unlimited supply of clean fully filtered water to add to the tank. I also have means to operate and maintain the filters for many years. I have a couple of years of various types of fish food stored. What happens when my fish food supply runs out? Any ideas on this? I have tried some alternative food sources that I thought would work but either the fish would not eat them or they polluted my tanks. In return I hope I could offer you something for barter.
Prepping is important for our pets too.
Pm with with the types of fish you have. Most will eat algae or the roots off some floating plants. If you have meat eaters there is always dried blood worms, dried beef heart. The beef heart will effect water quality. Feeder fish is the cleaner course to take. It means a secondary tank with something like guppies. They stay a small size unlike other traditional feeder fish. Hard thing for me to stay since I breed guppies but it's true.
ICRRC, have you tried dried flys, buy or make a fly trap. dump it every other day, or it smells like...well a hundred dead flys. Dump them on a screen, in the sun to dry. Believe me you dont want this in the house at first. For the fly trap, water and a piece of rotting meat (smaller than your little finger nail), scraps from what ever you cooked the night before.

Wild flies like wild crickets can cause health problems for your critters. Crickets can be raised in a tank and I think you could do the same with flies
Edit - just remembered - most do not know that fish will eat zucchini. I haven't tried it yet but I am hoping to dry some this year and see how well it does in the tank.

At this point, I don't need anything. I can't barter "inventory" unless we are in a SHTF situation.
I would work with Preppers beforehand though and offer discounts and tech support. Of course, in a post-SHTF situation, I'll surely need things, and I'm sure others will need what I have. Therefore, having a barter list might be a big help.
My thoughts anyway.
I thought you might be in the alternative energy buisness. Many preppers want to get started with a basic solar backup but know little about the subject or where to begin. Maybe you could be really helpful in this respect and perhaps start a new topic and give some advice. Just a thought.
Yes ICRCC, I am in that business. Here is the topic that was started about solar http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=903 .
I am certainly available to help other preppers with their solar thoughts. If anyone does want to buy anything from me, I'll be sure to offer the best deal possible.
I just can't barter my inventory unless we are actually in a SHTF situation. My accountant would kill me! LOL!
I currently have a 3 kilowatts , wind and solar powered system, with 12 deep charge batteries with enough power to run small lights forever, or a furnace (if we have natural gas) for 4 days, I am a Registered Nurse... I have 100 bottles of wine in storage ( I am a non-drinker), and 30 large tins of coffee....am considering vacuum packing cig's as an additional bartering tool, but only after my family and food shelves are protected....
Another problem is...the wind and solar will act as a homing beacon to the masses. Which in turn creates safety and security issues....?
It's is proving to be a delicate balancing process.
Thank you oldschool and ranger2012 you have helped me with a long term plan for my aquariums. My African cyclids , Koi, Plecostomuses, goldfish and sharks thank you both.

Don't forget to include peas in your prep for your goldfish 🙂

You probably know this already, but if your going to vacuum pack cig's do it in a jar/can or the papers will get mangled. Might be best, just to buy the "fixin's", loose tobacco in the tin and papers, and maybe a cigarette machine. If the smokers are desperate enough the will smoke anything. 😉
