another board i'm on always has "what's your weekend prep project" on Friday. people talk about there plans. i'm usually working so i don't get to use it.
but i've been off work and since i'm feeling better and NOT sleeping again, i thought i'd get some small jobs down.
my spare room was looking like the tote hobo moved it. it was filled with totes that had the over flow from the pantry. also a small bookshelf that was sitting empty, cases of wet dog food, some air filters and stuff all piled up.
so the wife is away, i got up, put on music, ran the dogs and got to work (dogs ran themselves, i just made sure they didn't go too far lol)
i moved all the #10 size cans of Tomatoe sauce, ketchup (yes, i buy big cans of ketchup, it last two weeks don't mess with it 🙂 ) and some freeze dried stuff i got from the guy in Clinton http://www.providencesupplies.com/
i put them along the back wall of the bed, nothing there, never walk back there... fill it up with food. also got two totes of canned goods and soft/paper packs of food down there. my safe got moved to the head of the bed, still out of sight, and i saved over 20 sq feet of space in my spare room.
i cleaned out under that bed and opened up a 1/4 of it for more storage. the storage under the main bed is next, i can fit a lot more stuff under there now,(but i have wasted space too, an empty tote, bug of stuff etc) i just haven't figured out what is going there yet.
organized under the bathroom sink, we have a long counter and i've doubled the space under there to use.
and when i said doubled or 1/4 more, i've moved stuff and that's now the space that is free for other things (i slept from 1130ish to 230ish so i'm not sure if i'm making sense to me, not to mention trying to type lol)
after a nap, i think i'm going to do the bottom cupboards in the kitchen, the pots cupboard is an unholy mess, i'm going to find what i use, and what can go away. the dogs have a cupboard too, full of jackets and other "stuff" for the dogs. there is no shelf in it. so after the first foot of piled up stuff the rest of the room is wasted. not 100% on what i'm going to do there yet, maybe a shelf, maybe just a small tote for the dog junk and put something under it? i don't know yet. . . rambling so it's time to end this lol
let us know what you've done this weekend.

Just brainstorming to figure out how to rearrange and better utilize the storage space we have. The height between our shelves is quite tall and I don't want to have to add extra shelves (love Ikea's lumber garage/fruit cellar shelving)
Found a suggestion on the American board...keep your vinegar jugs...when you buy shampoo in multiple small bottles...use them to fill up the 4 litre vinegar jugs then dispense as needed into an original shampoo bottles...the vinegar jug takes up less of a footprint on your shelves.
I'm the lady you're stuck behind in the grocery store with the over loaded cart filled with cases of tuna, peanut butter, huge bags of rice and the weary looking husband

The closest thing I did that came to a prepping project was to use one of my new rolling pins to make and then dry a old style swedish flat bread that is to keep for months like hard tack.. so far, it seems to fragile, I think I rolled it to thin? perhaps.. will continue to play around with this, as It would mean that I could make my own version of Ryvita in the house.

I finally packed two bug out bags that are good for a 72 hour emergency. My husband already thinks I am nuts so I have to break him in slowly to this stuff. I have a whole list of skills to master and items to make or buy to prepare for any bigger issue. We did just buy 50 acres outside of town and I have been given the go-ahead for greenhouse and a cold room/rootcellar so he is starting to see things my way. 🙂

That is all good stuff. I just thought it may help to start to look into a club. Without that you will not be able to get an ATT (authorization to transport) for whatever restricted firearm you get. You will only be able to bring it home and look at it. It can take several months to get into a club. You will also most likely have to take another club safety course. Also it helps to let the RCMP officer know why you want a restricted firearm. Club leval IPSC, Cowboy, Silioette, Bullseye.
Good luck with it all. I know I love it and have made a few friends at the various events.

i had my long gun PAL when i took the Restricted course.
i took a course (2 days) in May 08, Mid Aug my licence was in hand.
2 days later i bought a pistol, 6 days later i brought it home.
so 14 weeks 1 day to go from course to possession in my case.
it was the next Feb my club offered a safety course and that spring was the first time i got to shot it. (club is open in the winter but the range is not maintained. lots of snow means you're not shooting there)
for those that don't have the paper work, start the courses NOW!
