Subject: Prepper Story
Dear Bre McAdam,
Thank you for contacting Saskatchewan Preppers. I don't know if we can help you at the present time. The fledgling prepper movement in Saskatchewan is struggling to get going. We could certainly use good press but I personally don't trust the media (too many bad experiences).
I would suggest joining these Forums and making your request known there:

I hope that this helps. By the way, how did you find our website?
Sincerely,
Ryker, Admin

Hi Ryker, thanks for the reply.
I'm purely interested in the story from a human interest perspective, I just don't think a lot of people know about this movement in general, let alone in Saskatchewan. I found your website by googling Sask Preppers.
I've pitched the idea to my news director and she loves it. I was hoping you could point me to some enthusiastic and passionate preppers in the Saskatoon area. It's unfortunate that you've had negative experiences with the media, perhaps this would be an opportunity to talk about why prepping is important to you.
If you'd like to chat give me a call at 955-6397. Once again, if you don't feel comfortable doing an interview but know someone who would please let me know.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Dear Bre,
I have posted your request on the forums I suggested in an earlier email. Hopefully, you will get a response.
Best wishes.
Ryker
I'm vaguely interested in this, however I (like you) am wary of the media, especially on matters like these. Many preppers are just that for reasons of trust issues and a feeling of a lack of reliability on the sources that are supposed to feed us information.

It would be nice to have media portray us as normal but I would think there would be a "tinfoil hat wearing" spin on it. Gormley treats Kevin (a caller) like a nut. If you have ideals that are different than what is pushed on their shows you'd be advised by most to stay away. If you prep for things like tornado's and electrical disruption ( a few days ) then go for it. Most that prepare do it for a longer term disruption (3 months plus).
I have to agree. And it's not only the media. I'm an eccentric person, I think it may come commonly in this prepping territory (though I may be wrong), and I don't pretend to be things I'm not. If the idea of an apocalypse or disaster or what-have-you comes up in conversation, I'm not afraid to (nor do I have the off button to) talk about my beliefes on the matter. I find hilarity in the way people look at me (namely co-workers) for owning chickens, gardening, prepping and so on. Guess who's door they'll show up to if/when SHtF; that's right, mine. Won't be so crazy then.

Hi Sweetened, with all levels of Government telling EVERYONE to have a 72 preparedness kit rest assured your mot the crazy one. Anyone who does not have at least this kit is crazy. Most people don't even think three days ahead. Their loss!
When dealing with the media, go with the natural disaster / bad weather / power failure scenario. This keeps you from looking weird to the "normals" and gets people interested in at least the 72 hour kit. Once they get that into their heads, the rest will follow, as the will see 1 month supply kits on the same website as the 72hr buckets they are shopping for. Curiosity will get them wondering "what would someone need a months worth of food for?" At that point they are hooked and the eyes get opened.
Start small...make references to recent or likely short term scenarios. The rest will come.
Check out the Canadian Disaster Database and you will find tons of examples...wild fires, floods, epidemics...take your pick.
After the way CBC made Preppers look like kook's on "The Current" I would be very hesitant to do any Media interviews on the topic. They like to twist things for the "giggle factor".
That aside, if anyone does the interview avoid using your real name and location. In a SHTF Scenerio if people know what you have and who you are and where you live, its a pretty safe bet that you'll have a big bullsey on you in a hurry.
Best bet, avoid media exposure and keep all your preps hush hush.

Good advice, DaScribbler
The funny thing is, if media types want to learn about preppers, they don't really even need to interview any of us. They could just cruise the IPN for awhile and they'll learn all they need to know about us and how we think. Once we put our thoughts and insights out here into the public domain, it's fair game. An interview just allows them to put a name to the comments.
Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.
.
Regardless of what you say and what the questions are there is the issue of editing. They will make it into whatever they want it to be... NOT what you think it was... you will have no control over the final product that is shown to the masses.
Apparently on C95 it was flipped into some Mayan calendar crap.
This is a write up from the actual interview.
