Right or wrongly for saying this, most folks that don't know me, take one look at my size, (i'm very heavy) and assume i can't do things, while losing would be a good thing and something i am working on, it is a blend in...
after all you know that the fat peaple, can't carry water( says so in all those novels, poor guy was a hundred pds overweight and just fell over dead from hauling water up hill ), can't work the gardens, can't hike, would not have much, becuase if they can't look after their bodies, they would not look after of things..
at this point locally at least its a culture thing...

From my experience, any target is an easy target, especially for the cowardly sniper who will take you out from a shadowed window without you even knowing they're there. If you're walking outside, it doesn't matter if you've got combat fatigues and an AR15, they'll pick you off from the shadows.
Hence why we never travel alone on patrol in the military. It is more important to be a very obvious large armed group, than an armed-to-the-teeth single guy with a gun, or even a somewhat forgettable loner.
As far as not wearing Cam's, isn't that the fashion right now. Like every 3-4 person is wearing them. Hell, I'm ex-military, I don't have a pair and almost feel out of place.

Best to be the one looking for the pers that are trying to blend in..

When All else fails--BIP--
I look at this not only from the point of view of bugging out, but of being in the city, should you choose/need to stay. As far as bugging out is concerned, I don't own a car, so if we needed to bug out we have two options. We can bike out of town, which would be awesome, but perhaps dangerous if anyone decided they wanted our bikes. The other option is to go on foot, in which case we can likely get out more inconspicuously. I know a hiking trail system that comes through town and we would likely hit that and vacate the city if need be, with our BOBs in tow. We can get to the trail just four or five blocks from our home and it passes by campgrounds and natural and rural areas. I have the map for the trail, so we'd be good.
If we don't have to leave, then we will stay put and in that case, I want to blend in in the sense of looking like everyone else -- desperate. We could go out and do what others do -- look for food, try to find out information, etc. If we look like we are trying to survive on the same level as everyone else, they would be less likely to know we are actually living comfortably. Of course, if things went on for a long time, eventually the fact that we are eating regular meals would show because we wouldn't look as thin and malnourished as others, but we would have a while before that happened, at which time bugging out would likely be a necessity. Either that or defending out turf.
I would still go with trail bikes with trailers. you could use almost any hiking trail and or back roads to GOOD. Just pick your route wisely and always have a lead that is not encumbered. This is also when radio comms. work great. Low on cash, go to your local Auctions, they usually have a few bikes there fairly cheap.

My girls and I all have bikes. Theirs would be fine on the rough trails, but mine is a hybrid and would not suit as well. I'll figure it out. Another option I have considered is getting an inflatable raft with paddles and bugging out on the river. It is as close as the bike paths. However, it would have to be a quick inflate or it would take too long to get it going.
For a quick inflate, look at a compressed air cylinder, such as the type used on aircraft rescue rafts.

I like the idea of floating out of town on a dark night with no moon. Make sure to do some test runs and learn the waterways beforehand. You could even put caches along your bugout route. One can park a truck at a self storage facility for a minimal money payment and there are loads of them outside every major city, maybe even near your river? What a sweet deal eh? Get off the raft outside the city and hike over to your well stocked 4x4.
be sure the river is flowing in the direction you want to go, otherwise it might be embarrasing. 🙂 😀 😆 😕
Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.
And fatal. I cringe watching the Doomsday Preppers run there mock scenarios only to fail miserably. One episode in particular was of the Mt St Helens family that thought they could pack up their whole farm in under an hour and escape the volcanic ash cloud. They were hauling a fifth wheel, a tour bus, a boat, all their animals and an 8x12' cabin with a toilet in it. If we want to blend in we'll have to quikly separate ourselves from the lives and possessions we embrace today.
Their first mistake was to go on the show. Second, was to do a bug out without making sure that every thing worked first. What they did was darn right dangerous with the Mini house. 👿

I started yelling at the tv during the mini house load up.
lol, so did I...
I actually felt bad for them because I couldn't help but think that maybe they had been manipulated (pressured) into doing a dry run before they were ready. Producers are interested in ratings afterall, not success as we heard from the AB family who was on the show.
On the money Dangphool, on the money.
