Hunter again: Things that I haven't mentioned before about traps is that they could be deployed in a Urban area as well in the woods
Hi there folks: I am 66 and lived of the land for weeks at a time just to see what I would need to survive. I have been read what some of you are putting in your Bug out bag and it all sounds good
but if I may suggest a thing or to. to put in your pack. is ( 3 or 4 YO YO Fishing reels) Price about 10$ for 3 they are small but great for your pack Check them out. and I know a lot of you are not trappers but it is not a skill that is hard to learn.
Pick up 2 or 3 Conibear Traps. I always had plenty of food and with only two or three hrs. of recon to find where the trails are to set your traps then you can go back o take care of all the other needs at camp.
these traps are not Bear traps lol. the animals that you are looking for are Squirrel. Racoons, Groundhog, and Fish.
I use a number ( 220 ) Price about 30$ Conibear for Raccoon, and Groundhog and a number ( 110 ) Price about 10$ for Squirrels
Just my two cents worth
Hunter
Hey and welcome,
what is a YOYO fishing reel?
I used to carry snare wire, but having a hard time finding it now. Loved getting issued it in the military 🙄

yes but I hear that homo sapiens are salty and full of chemicals!
jk.. sort of
Thanks for the pointers
Here is a link for the yoy reel. Looks pretty good to have and inexpensive too. I like the Conibear traps too. Think I'll be getting a few.

Russell Coight....outback legend
I've seen this reel on YouTube and it seems to work pretty good. It's a self reeling spool,(to a point) that sets the hook on an over night line set but keeps the fish in the water.

Hunter Here = Bugging out is something that would be a last resort. No one would want to leave there home. But if you have to. The roads might be all blocked. and your car or truck might have to stay in the driveway
I do not know how many folks here live in a City or in a Urbain area. if you seen any pic. of the roads after Katrina they where all blocked for miles. I have a Mountain Bike and I bought a used two kids trailer that I use
when I go camping that I picked up for 50$ When I am on the road everyone thinks I am holing the kids around. I do not look out of place.and not a threat to any one and using a bike you travel 10 times faster than walking. I carry about 80lbs
of gear in two Packs. I am not as strong as many of yous so with the trailer I can travel 20 miles with not a problem. Something that I have done to the Trailer is change the tires to 26in the same as the Bike this way
I only have to carry 1 new tire and tube if I have a flat. When I get where I am going I hide the trailer and put the gear on the bike and walk to my bug out spot in the woods.PS With the trailer a lot higher I built a frame
under it that I can hide a shot gun .
My two Cents

Hunter again= Something I forgot to say After things settle Down this Bike might be your only means of transportation so make sure you take care of it
Your right about the bike, and it has been mentioned a few times already. I've started putting together my own trailer with the wheels from discarded bicycles. It wont be camo'd like yours but it should do the job. For protection. I have a shoulder rig for my 9mm, as well it wouldn't be too hard for me to throw together a 410 zip gun that looks like a bicycle pump. (pre-made but apart is just scrap metal)

lol A smart Man Ranger 2012 I have the same set up for my 40
Use your GPS as fishing wieghts. If there is a CME or solar flare, satellites will be junked. You will be lost. GPS units aslo transmit your location. Connect the dots on that one.
Sunoko (sp) a Finnish brand is as good as the Silva. I have one of each but was trained on the Silva. About $70 and make sure it has a mirror. Put the lanyard through one of your buttonholes. As for dollar stores, I prefer quality but quantity works too if you have the storage space.
Hey Mokonotora, a GPS does not transmit your location. A GPS is by definition receive only and has no transmit capability whatsoever.
Now if the GPS is part of a cell phone the phone may transmit your location (for "emergency services" like 911). 'On star' also transmits your vehicles location to their service people. Some fancy GPS/radio combination devices can transmit your location ('garmin rhino' or some ham radios). But a GPS by itself doesn't have the electronics necessary to transmit anything.
You are correct though that GPS service is a privilege likely to be lost during any major societal breakdown. Even if the satellites are functional, they are owned by the US military and could be "turned off" at some point in the interest of national security. Who knows? So practice with plain old map and compass. Then enjoy the bonus of a GPS when you can.

Le Baron Sport in Montreal carries a couple survival kits with snare wire in them. Although I didn't see it in the catalogue, it wouldn't surprise me if they had it.

Remember the trip flares in the military? The small wire spools that came with them was usually good for several flares. I saved every spool of trip wire I got my hands on. The olive drab coating on the trip wire makes it a perfect snare wire. I've got a couple dozen spools which I guard jealously.

Picture hanging wire works good also, the braided type. I guess you put some green paint on it if needed, but, just light coating.

Any of you guys every try making an Ojibwa bird snare. I've tried it a couple of times and it works like a charm. You can google the plans.
