Where in AB is the best place to buy ham radios? Or is the internet the best route? Any wisdom would be much appreciated. Thank you.
I never thought costco shelving could be so amazing
We got ours from Radio world in Toronto online, but only because they had an amazing sale and free shipping. There are a couple places in Edmonton, Alfa Radio has good selection usually.
I haven't looked in Calgary but there must be someone there.
Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
Hi Everyone
Ive searched around quite a bit an yes, http://radioworld.ca/index.php
and http://www.amateurradiosupplies.com/default.asp
are both excellent places to buy.
Here is an excellent article i find on Buying Your First Ham Radio
http://www.eham.net/newham/firstradio
and dont forget the link quietman posted about repeaterbook.com ...PRINT THIS INFO OFF!!
I think the idea about getting on the ham with eachother and figuring out what frequencies work using repeaterbook is great!! Lets do this now so we're prepared to talk to eachother when SHTF 🙂 🙂
Anybody doing feb 27th @ 7pm like quietman suggested?? i am working unfortunetly but will try my best for next time...

OK, I'm trying to figure out how to get a HAM license (or even get study guides) before I spend money on a radio that might not cover my wants/needs. Any help?
Try this site...
https://www.rac.ca/en/amateur-radio/beginner-info/courses/
I found 2 clubs close to me that offer courses.
The cost seems to be between $100 and $150 with study guides included.
I also found an online course out of Montreal for 60.00.
Good luck!
For anybody in the Red Deer area, or within reach, this is the best way to do the course and obtain your amateur radio license.
A course is being held on March 23 and 30th at 8 Keast Way, North Red Deer. This is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel. It starts at 9 am on both days.
No charge but a $10.00 deposit is required(to cover materials). They need to receive the deposit in the next week or two as it is getting close to the start date.
The deposit can be, either emailed to Gordon Stanford at ve6adc at gmail dot com, or sent in the mail to:
78 Hathaway Lane
Lacombe, Alberta
T4L 1T4
If you need more information please e-mail Gordon at ve6adc at gmail dot com.
