I'm looking into amateur radio for emergency anyone in the south do it is there a group in lethbridge and is there a way to do it cheap for starting up
Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it
Hello Duffman
Just get in touch with the Alberta Ameteur Radio people. The course was only $5 and took one weekend. There are a couple people in lethbridge who go on quite often, so once you are licenced and equipped you will be able to yak it up.
In fact I will be happy to call up the local channel and share prepper info too.
Good luck.
Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
I've been trying to get ahold of them with no success
Do u have there email or number u can pm me

Quietman
congrats from Morning Coffee and me on your license. Which club did you take the course through? Morning Coffee wants to know. You and I should be close enough to speak on 2M simplex. PM if interested.
The sum of the intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.
Thank you Ham&eggs, we took the course in Red Deer through the Central Alberta Amereur club. I am now also known as VE6 KGS.
I'll pm on setting up a yak session.
Hey Duffman and all you Lethbridge/Southern folks. I posted a link below for the local club there. The second link is for the online version of the course.
The third link was posted in the thread "Communication Plan" by Above all, adapt. This is good for everyone to know even for 2ways and CB's etc.
Does anyone besides myself, Ham&eggs, Above all, Adapt and MorningCoffee have a radio and interest to set up weekly hello chats?

Howdy Quietman,
I am not a ham, but that is probably because when I first looked into it, the morse was a foreign language to me, still is lol.
I had a quick look at your third link. I strongly suggest every prepper take a few moments and review that website. There were a few of us trying to get a standardized FRS/GMRS channel for general comms last year. In keeping with the information on that website the channel 4 is the prepper channel in the event of a disaster or other event. This is a common channel for establishing comms. They also suggest channel 4 on the CB or MURS type radios. As well, they list the freq's for Ham's in the different bands.
Thanks Quietman!! And Thanks Above All, Adapt!!!
Cheers,
Mountainman.
Thanks Mountainman, but the credit must go to Above all, Adapt. She posted the link first.
