I am planning on going camping/hiking/hunting around late January. Not hunting big game. I just want to test out my gear and knowledge of being out there if a disaster happens and I was to bug out on foot.
I think this is a good opportunity for anyone who wants to come out and learn and have some fun. If there are people on the forums who would like to join and teach each other valuable survival skills would be great. I got a 2 way radio, I can navigate myself with a map and compass and I wont be going way out into the wilderness so no one will get lost.

My plan is to drive out there, strap on my pack with what I need for 48 hours and start hiking for 5-10km then setup camp. I am hoping to catch some small game and test a tent stove/grill I am going to make. Maybe collect water and purify it.

The point of this is to test all aspects of my equipment and clothing to see if there is improvements to be made or learned.
If anyone is somewhat interested in this adventure let me know. Location at the moment I am thinking Bluerock wildland. I have a co-worke who has over 200 acres of land also that I can ask. Dates are still flexible and location can be changed if someone has a better idea.

I might be interested, Reg...Guy.
Need to sort my pack and extras first, test a couple of things before then, and ....
Well, just have to wait and see.

NOTE: Personally, I think it best if there were at least four (4) of us, in case a "SH!T" scenario develops with one person in the "field."

I have one private land that is confirmed for use. Just have to watch out for cougars if seen. More details on the land use and rules when you guys are for sure going with me. We can have a meet and talk about the details. The land is west of fort McLeod and runs along the old man river. Let me know if this is OK and not too far for some of you. We can have a meeting in fort McLeod or claresholme or Lethbridge. Let me know what is better for you guys. Meeting won't be till mid January so this will give you all some time to schedule and prepare your kit. Confirmed dates will change on weather condition for highway travel so we are all safe.

Hi. I am new to this forum (actually forums in general I guess), and this sounds like a great idea. Just depends on the actual dates of trip. Location is good. Any of the three for meeting is good too. I think I've got all necessary gear (lol, I'm very much a newbie, but smart and interested...just no buddies that are interested in this type of stuff), but would like to talk it over before committing, as I don't want to be a hindrance.

I'm interested but I don't have a vehicle. If anyone doesn't mind allowing me to hitch a ride I'd love to come.

Down near west of Fort McLeod! Holy cr@p. That is a distance.
Well, I could try to synchronize some time away to go visit the grandkids in Lethbridge too ....

Getting a ride is not a problem porcupine.

I think we have the right amount of people to make it fun now. I am in Lethbridge so I can talk to the people who are close to me first and fill in the others who won't be able to go meet. You guys and gals should pm me your phone number so I can call or text you the details when the time draws near.

I just designed a tarp tent last night and I am excited to sew it together over the holidays. Along with materials for my tent stove I will be making. I heard from my friend that this land has a lot of small game especially rabbit/hare. Hope you guys are OK with catching and eating em.

Things we will or try to do are;
1) Hike from vehicle to a desired area to setup camp. approx 3-5km
2) setup camp
3) find food and water (get from river and distill/filter/boil and hunt or trap or forage for food)
4) designate a latrine area with a track plan away from camp
5) designate safe areas and direction of fire for hunting Arcs of Fire
6) Do fire picket 1-2 hours rotation if your up to it for added security
7) learn how to make a fire
8) learn how to make water safe
9) hygiene and waste disposal
10) how to prepare game meat after catching
11) Edible and medicinal plants

the list goes on all little tidbits that will help out in a survival situation. I hope to incorporate all of this and make it fun. I would like to have a detailed plan set in stone but as all things go, shit happens so just hoof it and learn as we go might be more realistic.

I am thinking of doing a scenario like this;
Shtf what ever it is, it has been 3days and all the stores are empty gas has dried up and people are angry. Protest everywhere against the govt. We are the few who decides not to join that mob and waited for the right time to bug out. So on our way to our BOL we hit an obstacle, roads are blocked and looters run rampant. We will have to leave our vehicles behind and say we cached what we can and carry what we can makin our way to a BOL/Safe place. So we have been hiking 20-30km in the wild trying to avoid detection. We grow tired and weary so we decide to stop and spend the night or 2 to recouperate and consolidate what we have.... our scenario could start from here.

I am not a good story writer but I think you all know what I mean.
Edit* Also to add if the weekend of this thing looks bad for travel then I will move it to a date that is safer to travel on. I don't want anyone get hurt if I can prevent it.

Plan sound good to me, RegularGuy. I was talking with someone at work today looking for tips on Winter Camping.
Not sure if the south end of the province gets much snow, but has anyone ever tried sleeping in a Quinzhee, i.e. a man made snow cave usin a pile of snow?
I would dearly like to learn how to "dress" game that is caught. So hoping my PAL come through soon; application went in during mid summer and my references and me got called at the start of this month.....
Note: the only thing possibly holding me from participating is that I might be moving in mid or late January.

I've got lots of experience with snow caves but you're right about the snow situation, we'll have to see. I have a small vehicle shovel that's easy to pack and scoops well. There's lot of options for winter camping that would be good to try.
