If no one volunteers family heirlooms for you, maybe take a trip to Heritage Park and ask the blacksmiths there.
I found all my blacksmith stuff at auctions.... just search "Anvil" on this page: http://www.todaysauctionpage.com/ and you should find something of interest. whatever you do don't buy a cast iron anvil from princess auto.
"Beets, Blacksmithing, Bow hunting"
whatever you do don't buy a cast iron anvil from princess auto.
Or Canadian Tire. It's the same thing.

Thanks guys, forgot to subscribe to topic, I will give these a try. Thanks again.
For starters there are plenty of plans for brake drum forges on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=brake+drum+forge+plans&sm=1
From those videos you will find some suggested videos on how to make your own black smithing tools. Concerning the actual forge I would be inclined to set up a 4" (100mm) computer fan powered by a 12V battery to supply the air. It moves decent volumes of air using very little electricity. An ABS toilet flange makes a great place to mount a fan to and from there you can adapt to 4' tubing or hose that will move the air too the base of your forge. The 12V battery could be recharged using solar during grid down conditions.
