This weekend I spent inventorying and doing repairs to one of my BOL's. As I was heading up I found out the old trail had been washed out. I spent 6 hours dropping trees, limbing and winching them into place to make a bridge. Lots of wildlife on the way up, saw a young Grizz, two cow elk, lots of deer and the highlight, a beautiful Lynx. I finally reached the cabin just before night fall to find a pack rats took residence. Creepy little buggers, shot two of them.

The next two days was spent caulking with expandable foam, caulking the windows, built a couple benches, tar the roof and chimney, tightened screws on tin portion and cleaned the chimney.

Spent Sunday morning fishing ay my favorite hole. Threw back 7-9-12" rainbows before heading home.

My wife and I are heading up for a couple nights at end of month to cut and haul wood, cable cinch the new bridge, install a metal ridge cap and play spin the bottle.

Beautiful! My wife and I are ready to buy, and were looking for such a spot just this weekend - question: does the low level (front) window serve a specific purpose?

CryBaby, is your setup on Crown land, or your own land? I ask because I have absolutely scoured MLS and WeList and can find absolutely nothing like this anywhere for sale. Everything seems to be advertised with "excellent" or "good" road access, power to lot line, etc... all that usual crap that denotes just how close you actually are to wandering souls with possibly ill-intent.

Winter sun.

The sun just peaks over the mountain top for just 3 hours a day. Optimizing every minute.

Here is the view from the deck:

Wasn't meaning to pry.... I was asking from the angle being that if it was Crown land, (cause I didn't know we could build on Crown land (non-permanent)), I could do the same and try to emulate your setup, as I'm having no luck in finding what I want in the price range I can afford (but isn't that ALWAYS the case for everything??? lol 😀 ), then i could use that cash for other preps (rather than a large output for land)....

Camping on one site for more than 21 days is illegal. It is also illegal to make any type of permanent structure on crown land unless you have a permit for specific activities that would require said structure such as trapping. If an illegal structure comes to the attention of the authorities they will remove it and if they can associate an indivudual to that structure, charge them with improper use and assign costs for the removal as well. If this was allowed everyone and his whole family would be "settling" in the hills.

Isn't it funny when you think about it.... not so long ago, all the poor folk lived in the countryside and mountains on self-sustaining acreages, while the rich folk lived int eh cities.... now rich folk live in the countryside and mountainside acreages while the poor folk have to live in the cities!!!

Grayman,

Sorry I do not see the humour in it. It did not occur by accident, it was project in social engineering. Up until World War 2, most Canadian lived on farms, acreages, homestead that were self-sufficient. Most people did not need ANY assistance from any level of government. Thus, the people were not dependent on the government. So, two and half generations later, and most Canadians live or at least work in the cities and most need the government from getting water to wiping their arse. A nanny state, has been created. Now when the lights go out and the power is down, instead of going to the drawer and getting some candles and lighting a fire to keep warm. Every sheeple grabs their texting device and declares an emergency and needs temporary housing til this disaster is resolved. A state of dependency has now been achieved. The last step, remove the cities and all that reside in them - the sheeple.

Isn't social engineering wonderful.

Mountainman.
