I'm in Edmonton. A girlfriend just mentioned she's home from work due to a power outage, havent heard why. She works at a Gov of Canada building.

There was power outage in edmonton too? Solar flare perhaps? Power is back in calgary for the time being, havnt heard any more news about it. I'm back home now going through the bug out bag lol. Never hurts to be ready! Not really considering this a threat at this point, but you never know I guess. That's the point of being prepared I suppose!

News update states that it is an alberta wide "planned power consumption limitation". Enmax apparently has been ordered to shed 40+ megawatts of power province wide. Rolling blackouts expected to last throughout the week. I will post more info as I find it.

If the heat continues so will the rolling blackouts. An unfortunate fact of life. However what an opportunity to practice your prepping skills!

Hope you people are using or making your solar ovens. solar heaters for your showers, solar dryers for your laundry (also known as a clothes line). For you entrepreneurs, make some solar ovens, and use one on your front lawn (demonstration) and sell a few at $50-$100 ea. And don’t forget to use your hand saw, hand drills and hammer to make them. (My God, do you mean that they still make those antiques!) 😯

check out you tube videos using a sun visor for your vehicle as a solar funnel oven...we picked up a couple ($9 at Canadian tire, cheeper in dollor stores)
