I'm driving out to Waiporous to camp in my BOV on the 28th this month (June) so if any of you feel like coming out, testing gear, camping with like minded folks and doing a bit of friendly networking... Give me a shout. I went up there a few weeks back (check pics in BOV) thread and its beautiful. I will be testing some of my gear as well of course. Lets enjoy some outdoors shall we?

Well gang... I'm gearing up to get dropped off August 1st approx. up at Waiporous where I have been 4x4 camping in my BOV... Was thinking I will spend a full week up there living out of a pack. Might try snaring for meat and some home made fishing... You know, survival stuff. I will have my satellite phone so safety is key. I'm hoping to get some numbers for this excursion so if any of you beginner or veteran outdoors types wish to come along I would love your company. I will check in regularly for responses and if its a go... I will officially book the time off work.

Cheers.

Wow, you'll have to give us a synopsis if you do go up for a full week! I wonder how many people will be able to get that much time off on such short notice? Hopefully you have some takers...

Nobody yet. Might be a solo act.

Moving this week long hike camp up a few weeks into later August, possibly even Sept. Give me a shout if you are in and we can tweak the dates. Right now... my money mysteriously vanished right after a meeting with my daughters orthodontist. I wonder if there is a connection there? Hmmm....

For people just getting into this a group is the best so they still have peace of mind of someone to talk to and share ideas with.. Glad to hear you have a sat phone. I await what you think of doing this with just your pack. This is how i deer hunt up north on my buddies 400 acres. Only i have a rifle for my deer and moose. Being alone for a week can bring out the demons in your head... Be careful and enjoy your time alone.

I did it once when I was 20 for 7 days but out of my car. You are right about the demons... About day 4 I started getting restless so journaled a great deal as a form of talking to someone. It was an experience in itself. Getting surrounded by a pack of coyotes one night was another. 🙂

Ah the wild. Gotta love it.

Yes Sir Scotty.. A journal is a great form of release for someone trying this on his or her own the first few times. I really do hope folks that have little to no time in the bush does what you do alone. Everyone talks of what the body has to endure. The mind is usually the first thing to go.

Hi everyone,
I live in Calgary (though I am hoping to move out of the city in the spring) and would love to get together with some like-minded folks....share some thoughts, ideas and all like that. If anyone is planning a gathering or meetup in Calgary, I would love to attend. Maybe we could all meet at a Timmy's somewhere central?

Is there an emergency meetup group here in Calgary? I am getting tired packing and unpacking by myself every 6 months. We need to have some actions locally.
