Ya the 2012 thing can get a little out of hand.
My wife and I were talking about this just the other evening.
It is our fear of the perfect storm scenario, there are so many things going the wrong direction in this world, and I see a catastrophic climax..
For starter's the economy, it is and will collapse, also war drums beating ever stronger. If they get going in the middle east this time it will be devastating there is already hints of world war III starting all bets are off if Israel takes a shot at Iran. Iran will retaliate with every thing they have and not just at Israel, they will go after Saudi Arabia and every other oil producing nation for the western country's. Iran knows to defeat the west it doesn't have to attack them directly, just there main support net work, and they are more then capable of doing that, and if China and Russia get involved, we may see the nuke's flying for real this time..
If this happens society breaks down, governments unable to maintain control...Then just for the hell of it, add a pandemic because a lack of modern medicine Du to no social structure..
This is the perfect storm scenario and a very possible one, that's what truly scares the hell out of me....
And this is why any of my bug out plans put me a long way from population....
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
you are so right on about the whole iran thing traveler.china and russia signed a treaty to develope irans gas and oil feilds about three years ago i think there buts are pretty well covered. and the pandemic could very well happen to . and dont forget all the crazy weather around the world ,crop failures, floods, drought , it seems one extreme to the other and all the bird deaths and the fish dying in large schools like what is that? something is definatley going on . you can almost feel it. i do beleave time is running out and all the sheeple better open there eyes because whats coming aint gonna be pretty. our way of life is going to change . we are about to step back in time about a hundred years or more i think. or i had to mutch coffee tonight.. keep your powder dry and your knife sharp. take it easy preppers..

You just quoted pretty much exactly my point of view and main reason for prepping.
Those who are unwilling to defend freedom, will become unfree.

What you said about being able to almost feel it , is exactly what my wife and I have said many times.I said the other day I we get the[ o crap nothing is going to happen]..and then boom there is a big reminder to stay focused and keep prepping..What ever does or does not happen I will be prepared..lol...Well as good as I can.....A COUNTRY BOY CAN SERVIVE....lol....Have a good evening gang....
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
Good morning!
Thanks for all the feedback on your scenario's. It's good to get a good sense of what other's are feeling in terms of where things are heading to see if the feelings are mutual and I have to say, my thoughts are inline with the opinions expressed here.
It scares the heck out of me to think that we are heading towards this inevitable unfortunate ending that no one can stop due to the arrogance of Government's around the world that work not on behalf of the people whom elect them into office, but on behalf of those in the top echelon of the world.
It was interesting, I was reading an article that had actually suggested that people stay put in their homes when the SHTF, now understanding that I don't know this guys back ground in dealing with emergency situations, I thought that was probably the worst piece of advice to ever suggest to anyone!
I do look forward to sharing more moving forward, this is a great forward filled with people who I believe are genuine about their feelings.
~Make it a great day!

I think that could be debated to no ends ,I doubt if there is a coffee pot , or Rum bottle..[if that's your thing ].. big enough to sustain that conversation.. I would definitely like to have that debate..My personal thought on that is ; depends on the situation ,and how fast the social net work breaks down..And to add, by then it may be to late, or to dangerous to travel..
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...
There is no debate. Nomads have outlasted every civilization EVER. The only debate about staying put is on how long you will last.
I think some of it depends on your situation. If you live in the country or a small community then your options may be alot better for staying put. If you live in Calgary or Edmonton with a million other people and things start going bad and you start seeing Vancouver or London style roits (which you will, I have no doubt) then staying in place even if you have done a great job of prepping may be a dangerous if not even foolish move.
As to my biggest fear. I have mentioned previously that I happen to travel for work and so my biggest fear in an EMP style senerio in which I am caught a 1000-2000+ km's from home and my family. Particurlarly if I have had to use air travel to get where I was at the time. I have a great Get home Bag in my SUV, but I am really limited when it comes to what can be carried and how much, even in a checked bag for air travel.
Pandemic.
A lot of the other stuff like EMP is a maybe - maybe we won't have our system robust enough when it does finally come. Financial collapse probably won't become as bad as it could with serious civil unrest but we're waging a losing battle with those viruses. Antibiotics are losing their effectiveness as we speak.
One day it's almost certain to happen. You'll need to self quarantine for months and even that's no guarantee.
Evenin',
There are many things to cause the hairs on the back of your neck to rise and the flight or fight instinct to start to kick in. Fire. Riots. Earthquakes. Tornadoes. And the list could go on and on. But those of us lucky enough to live in Canuckland, we have the opportunity to be the richest nation in the world that in the very near future, may lose it all. That is my fear.
Oil may run the world economy at the moment, but in the not too distant future, I believe water - fresh drinking water, will be how world wealth is measured. And we have the most fresh surface water on the whole planet. Someday, somebody, somewhere will be thirsty enough to march in here and take it. Not to share, with us. Not to barter or trade. To take, with all the force neccessary to succeed. There are only 37 million standing between them and unlimited, unpolluted wealth.
Just my opinion, of course. Just my luck we become the water barons of the world only to be dispatched by a bird flu or an astroid. I guess that is the nature of the "what if" game!
Nothing wrong with being prepared.
My biggest fear would be economic collapse and things that would come with that with job losses abringing able to live on a reduced income. I'm prepared for the short term emergencies but you can also avoid allot of those by not living in places where they happen ie don't move into a flood plain, etc.

I agree with your water statement, many of the old farmers have said that very same statment over the years .

This is almost guaranteed but we can grow our own food. Water too is an issue(again, almost guaranteed) but it falls from the sky - free. Just gotta hold on to it.
Many of the unexpected things, EMP, asteroids and all that are pretty unlikely.
Natural disasters you can plan for .. live in a tornado area? Don't build a house of sticks..
Disease on the other hand is bound to happen some day, them germs just never give up. And we'll to wait till after it's already hit to even start mounting a defense .
Hey Perfesser,
Although, natural disease strains that will cleanse the planet of the human parasite are one thing and probably unavoidable. How do you feel or what is your opinion of the scientific community trying to beat Mother Nature to the punch by creating ultra-toxic synthetic diseases??
This article from the Calgary Herald: http://www.calgaryherald.com/health/Doomsday+virus+replicated/6554843/story.html Is very interesting and very, very scary. This adds a new level to the "what if" game. Like, what if, someone designs a pandemic just to clear some living space for themselves and their friends??? See, this does gets nasty quick; especially if you are not on the guest list.
Food for thought.
Mountainman.
Not just to create living space but to spread fear, and therefore control as well as to provide a market for big pharma... They cover all the bases.
"Do not ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence".
I don't know the author of that quote but I believe that is closer to the truth.
It would make far more sense to use a genetically modified disease targeting certain ethnic groups if your goal was population control. It's not very bright to release something that kills indiscriminately.
I heard a Coast to Coast show on the avian flu subject, Gary Ridenour was the guest.
