Topic starter

Just looking at the boards, and there seems to be a growing desire for some nature of in person prepper meeting. To see if there is truly enough interest in such, can I get a quick head count of who would take the time (and likely even travel - it is a big province!) to come to some nature of preparedness meet up. Just reply with a yep if your in.

Read my mind. I was thinking of putting together a more formal event and having speakers, break out rooms and a mixer night so everyone can get to know people better. If your interested post in bridens post here and maybe we can work with briden as well to bring an awesome event worth the travel.

Just joined the forums and have read most of the threads. It seems to me that many of the topics being discussed throughout these threads would make for good starting points for formal discussions/break-out rooms/workshops, etc.

I've seen references to some topics that would be interesting;

discussion: hunker in - bug out (when and how to decide)
networking: making friends local to you (meeting people in safe surroundings before letting them in to your homes)
workshops: heritage skills that are in decline (canning, milling, growing crops not just gardening)
workshops: skills that are nearly lost (I'm thinking of old-school carpentry and blacksmithing)

I'm just throwing stuff out based on what I've been reading lately, here and elsewhere.

I've been stockpiling for years but not seriously prepping until recently, so I'm definitely a rookie.

Would Red Deer be the best location for most people to meet up? Im just thinking its kind of central to the bulk of the population.... Any thoughts?

I'm just starting into this lifestyle, and would definitely be interested in learning more from experienced people. I too would be willing to do some traveling, but would need notice as well to see if I can make it happen.

Yes. But where?
Many on this board may also be interested in the Rat Root Rendezvous in Wildwood in late August.

If we do this, I think an out of the way place or area as to not too draw a lot of attention...A Lot of people meeting in a public area may draw unnecessary attention...Call me paranoid, but I would like to see if there are any unwanted cameras and seedy type people...[media].. lurking around..Its obvious they monitor these sites and I for one would like to see them coming...
And the first meeting might be more of a meet and greet, and see where it goes from there...
I also would like to see our first meeting to take place before the end April, I think August is a bit to far away....for the first one...
It is spring, And the politics of the world ..[ man made and natural ]..are beginning to get a little sporty....if we are all on the same page , in trying to find like minded people to form a provincial collation.. and by all means not to exclude our neighbors to the west and east all are welcome as far as I am concerned...We might wanna get things in gear...Just my opinion....

Well this went pretty far away from what I am working towards setting up for classes etc. I was thinking about alternative energy, Water storage, Prepping solutions, etc. Making and maintaining a bug out location, Speakers on growing your own food, Aquaponics, etc. As for government takeovers etc your on your own..... I am not personally interested in anything like that. If your interested in the latter, let me know and I will keep working on it otherwise I will not waste my time...
