Well this went pretty far away from what I am working towards setting up for classes etc. I was thinking about alternative energy, Water storage, Prepping solutions, etc. Making and maintaining a bug out location, Speakers on growing your own food, Aquaponics, etc. As for government takeovers etc your on your own..... I am not personally interested in anything like that. If your interested in the latter, let me know and I will keep working on it otherwise I will not waste my time...

I hear ya. I prep for my own reasons, I don't need to sit through lectures on why I should prep for other peoples reasons. There'd probably be enough of that kind of talk around the campfire. I just wanna learn how to prep more efficiently and how to get started on skills I don't have. I need to learn about resources not reasons.

I agree I think just a low keyed meet and great to get the ball rolling would be a good way to start, but if we are going to do this lets get the first one going....

I'd be interested in attending. Might I suggest a parking lot in the open or a church basement. I'm sure there would be at least one ranter going to go off at such a meeting so noise containment should be considered. lol

New guy here. Not the guns and glory type, more the want to be prepared more than the avg Joe kind of type. Former Navy and then a bodygaurd/P.I. for 10 yrs. plus other non-related work experience. No history of violence and dont intend to tarnish that record. 46 yrs old this month and a single parent who has his child to consider.

Would be interested in meeting locals (Calgary) to do camp sessions and idle chit chat on prep plans or things we can teach one another. Not hoping for an economic colapse and not wanting a zombie apocalypse either but the writing is on the wall and I figure its better to be ready and nothing happen than to have something happen and not be ready. If anyone else is game on bumping into one another... hit me up and we can sit around the back yard fire pit one night with a beer or we can go meet at a Denny's to start things. Whatever works.

Cheers

So I am thinking we should have regional meetings to start, and then latter in the year say around July...we get together as one collective group...so with out giving out addresses what is every one's closest city....CALAGARY for me....

I'm based in Manitoba but have spent piles of money doing business with Briden who started this thread. If Briden puts together a prepper meet/trade show or some sort I may well be willing to road trip in for it. Hope it happens 🙂

The briden folk are just down the road from me. I would most certainly attend if they set something up.

Calgary here (36 FAMILY OF 4)....I think prepping is the smart way to go and prepping in numbers is even smarter. We definetly would need a remote "bugout" location with harvest ability, near fresh water, a 'well' if need be etc.Aquaponics is huge.Secure the area and arm ourselves!!Throw down some impenetrable shipping crates as living quarters and we'll be ahead of the game.We could devide ourselves into small clans and also work as a whole if need be.LET'S GET TOGETHER AND CHAT!

Hello folks, I am from Calgary. My wife daughter & I are preppers. We were on a TV show called Doomsday Preppers. It aired last tuesday in the U.S. on the Nat Geo network but hasn't aired in Canada yet and (so far) it hasn't been posted to YouTube. Anybody want to compare preps?

Hey Guys, So i have been in contact with some people who are active on the forum and in the industry of self sustainability and we are currently in the process of planning something for this summer. I will start a new thread to see what people want more information on and so forth.

Hello, Good to talk to some other prepper.

....just wondering if you are concerned with the exposure now?

No, not really, We haven't seen the segment yet but we aren't too worried about the exposure.

what your thoughts are on being on the Nat Geo program?

It was a fun couple of days doing the shoot. But honestly? Keep in mind this is primarily an entertainment program dressed up to look like a documentary.
Considering it was supposed to be "Reality TV" there wasn't much real about it.

They would tell us what to say and do. When we would say "But, uhhhh we wouldn't say that (or do that) We would do this." They would respond with something like "Yes, but saying this would be a liiiiittttle better." They are very pesuasive and have a way of getting you to go along. Finally you find yourself saying "Aw to hell with it" and doing it their way just to shut them up.

From what I heard about the final product is quite different than who we actually are.

They also seem to have an obsession with guns. Yes, firearms are part of prepping the same way a hammer is part of building a house. But it's not the ONLY part.

They just wouldn't clue in to this no matter what.

I saw the thumbnail for the video on the Nat Geo Doomsday Preppers website. It's titled "Basement Bunker". (My wife & daughter are in the photo.) But when you click on it a message says "Not available in this country"

The title "Basement Bunker made my wife & I look at each other and go "huh?" We don't have a basement bunker.

I'll maybe tell more later --- Gotta go.

Bottom line - good for entertainment thats about it. Probably wouldn't do it again. When Nat Geo magazine called for an interview we turned them down.
