Howdy,

Maybe the first meeting should coincide with: "Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is an annual event that takes place each year during the first full week of May. This national event is coordinated by Public Safety Canada, in close collaboration with the provinces and territories and partners." from http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/knw/epweek-eng.aspx

If this meeting and expo occurred when the national observance on emergency preparedness was being promoted, all the better.

Now a "secret" handshake or lapel pin needs to be developed so preppers can identify each other in the crowds of persons attending the emergency preparedness expo.

Food for thought.

Go to General Discussion and read what was posted there about Identifying....It will be under [ Identifying]....welcome to the form.....

Its kinda of a touchy subject; as I found out.Yes it would be nice to be able to ident another prepper by a symbol he/she may Ware..
But as I found out, most of us are very anti government and secret society. As they are the shyster's that put us into all of these mess's..
And the cardinal rule of prepping is..[ tell no one nothing about what your plans are].. most people want to fly way under anybody's radar...
So yes I agree it would be nice to have some kind of visual ident system, but I also strongly agree with rule # 1[ zipper's on lipper's ]...
I think that is why the parking lot meet and greet that..Bridensolutions and myself have been working on organizing is getting traction..
we can all meet the local [ Calgary]- preppers, and see if we have the makings of a trust worthy group to build a possible net work and or bug out buddies..Or at least share a few prep Ideas..In an all out bug out scenario we all no we will never last long as individuals, the problem is finding trust worthy souls to bug out with, or meet up with...

No doubt about Opsec, is priority one. However, until the "event", gaining knowledge for most people is a very high priority, too. I was serious about timing a knowledge exchange to coincide with Emergency Preparedness Week, as this is a very legitimate purpose of being prepared. On the other hand, the handshake was a bit of tongue in cheek dark humour. I have read the warnings posted by the more cautious of this forum. Now, for those most worried by the "Int" community starting a file on them and tracking their movements, they will only visit this site to read, not to register or to write on the boards. So, for the remainder of the membership they will fall on a spectrum from self-sufficient homesteader at one end and wacko para-military militia types at the extreme other end. Of course, somewhere alone that spectrum will be the media types and the odd spook. Having said all that, some type of forum to exchange knowledge face-to-face is not wrong for most people in this country. Because it is not unlawful to know how to take care of yourself and your family. In fact, we are expected to be self-reliant for not less than 72 hours in an emergency - local or regional. Maybe the best way to start is to have vendors of self-reliant products to be the host of a knowledge and product expo??? The first full week of May 2012 would be as good a time as any other. A 01 April 2012 date may receive more mocking than is required. Just my thoughts.

LOL YA... had to think about that for a minute, with my job and activities one day blends into the next... We have a good vendor with,[ Bridonsolutions[ Cocharane ab].. they have a nice little business going out there..And I agree with you hole heartily with sharing ideas and prepping info...I think the KEEP QUITE part would be where you would go and where your supplies are and how much does one have..The first week in May does not work for my self as I am involved with a first responder net work already for that week...As well as working...there is traction for a product and mutiple speaker meeting later... Most of the feed back that Myself and Briden have been getting is for a first time low-keyed meet & greet, get to know who and what kind of people are in the calagary area. But I do know the Calgary preppers thread is organizing such a meeting as you are talking about, and I for one would be interested in attending..Just dont have time to organize such a meeting.. Good to have you here and look forward to your post's...

OK so It seems April 1st is a bad date for most people around here, so we will try for May 6 [ its a Sunday] on the emergency preparedness week as was suggested, by gc-mountainman..Briden Solutions started this thread and I have no idea where he has gotten to..He said they were going to a trade show and haven't heard from him since..So let me know if May 6th will work for you, that should give everyone enough time.. and hopefully Bridensolutions re-appears..

The calgary firearms and cartridge group's big show is upcoming at the BMO center this coming weekend (Easter weekend), maybe they are pre-occuppied with that?

In the years I've gone it's been a huge show with lots of variety in tables; not just guns and ammo but all sorts of things. Now that I've said this, I hope they don't prove me wrong this year : )
