As mentioned in our meeting thread, I went out to the area discussed and scouted the location. it had been years since I was last there so it took a few hours to find. Trail going in was a bit overgrown and was hard to spot. Anyway, to me it looked like it had been abandoned with only a few ATV tracks in the area recently. The location I believe would be perfect. Excellent water, secluded, fuel scattered everywhere and basic shelters.

Here is the old "No Trespassing signage blown to pieces by 12 gauge blasts:

Here is the gate to the entrance, not secure at all and could be removed by children. The gate is basically leaning up against one post:

Once gate is moved aside, there would be parking for at least 12 medium sized RVs or trailers (plus vehicles):

Outhouse that works perfectly, 😉 albeit it has a few bullet holes.

View towards a community preparation kitchen and roofed cooking area. One 12" diameter hole in roof due to a shotgun blast. I'm estimating the outdoor cooking shelter is 45' x 25'. Would be easy to tarp the walls for warmth in winter months:

There are 18 basic cabins. Two have been very vandalized and the odd one needs work:

The river is less than 250' away from the main structure. Fresh water. Close by is a small lake. Fish in both:

Small trail along river:

Very secure area. Easy to get into. I suggest a few guys going in before winter to repair cabins if this location is adequate.

Hope this helps.

Questions?

that looks ideal to me. Thank you for doing that for all of us. That was very considerate and tolerant of you to do. Nice cook area for bbqing mutts 😆

Any idea on who owns it now? looks like it would be a good area for a weekend campout, but obviously as long as there is still law, we need to abide by it.

See you all after.

Awesome bug out location! Abundant fuel, water, small game, and building supplies; and I bet them bushes are loaded with berries even for a short while. Prob more then one place to plant a few garden plants and roots. Tons of places to dig in as well.

Why even wait till SHTF with a location like this? The Great Canadian Bug Out could begin today.

Thanks for going there. It looks like a very good location.

There must have been some fairly recent activity there though, the lock on the gate looks in pretty good shape, even if the gate can just be moved.

Thank you for doing that for us all.

It was my pleasure. Grabbed a sixer of wobbly pops and had a great day riding and fishing with my wife.

Funny you should say that. It's a 3252 padlock, one I put on 13 years ago. I looked for the key where I remembered .... but it was not there anymore.

Who owns it?

The land is Crown. As far as I found out today, the outfit that was set up there is now defunct, but not confirmed. I've got calls in to see if the permit has lapsed. If it has, I will apply for a secondary location to my permit.

looks like a good area for a weekend campout

There lies the problem. If too many people know about it, it will no longer be a hidden gem. I'm sure a few ATVers know about it and that's it. Personally, I would like to see a few guys go in to do the repairs yearly (fall) and stay the hell out of there otherwise.

I will speak more about the "real goodies" of the location at the next meeting.

cry baby,

If it can wait until mid October, I will go out for a weekend with a load of material and do the repairs. I've lots of cordless tools and can bring a small generator for battery re-charging. If you can, send me a honey-do list of things that need mending and materials that will be required.

I use 4 marine batteries and a 750 watt inverter. Built our house that way. All cordless. Wish this was a place in SK since it looks so ideal. I would take my Compact Utility Tractor out there and help you guys.

Good luck.

Looks like you guys found a great location...congrats. Here's hoping that something like that could be found in the eastern regions, although, in Quebec, crown land is difficult at best to get your hands on.
