My wife begrudgingly sent me the following link, and I started salivating immediately:

As a man who sometimes has more money than sense, I dutifully stepped into line to become backer #1316 ($30 pledge - gets you the game access).

Okay, YES, it's just a glorified FPS. BUT ... it's also a "survival sim" in a zombie apocalypse, in ALBERTA (too bad it's Calgary since I'm in the Edmonton area, but still).

I recognize you could buy like 50 lbs of rice with $30. I'm not saying this is a "top of the list" item. But if you want something to, uh... "keep hope alive," (or maybe involve your kids?), then maybe this is something to consider.

(Now I'd better stop spending money on stupid stuff or my prep group will wag their fingers at me when I make up excuses for not having got my hunting licence yet, etc...).
