These are the two I carry in my BOB, camping, etc...
The Gerber Infantry LMF-II, for the price it is a wicked knife, and the sheath is also very well made. Full tang, very comfortable handle, and never wants to slip from your hand. I am not really a fan of the half straight and half serrated edge knives, but the times it comes in handy outweighs the times it is inconvenient.
The sheath comes in a leg strap configuration which works well, and doesn't slip down or ride up when adjust properly. I removed the leg straps, and used the built in MOLLE straps to attach it to my pack. It can also be tied on through the rope holes. It holds the knife very firmly, you don't have to worry about it falling out, but is still easy to draw.

I have said before how much I love the Cold Steel magnum Kukri Machete for the price, it is an absolute work horse, and will put up with about any abuse you can dish out to it. The factory edge does need a lot of work, but once you get a good edge on it, it holds it for a long time. Even when dull, it still gets the job done through brute force alone.
The handle can be a bit rough to use for extended periods with bare hands, but I typically wear a pair of gloves when hacking and slashing, you could also make a nice paracord handle wrap.
The sheath leaves some things to be desired, but it gets the job done. I am working on making an alternate sheath out of heated PVC or possibly some home mold Kydex, I will post pictures when I come up with a success.
Those are nice where did you get them and how much are they
Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it
I made a few things out of vinyl siding. Heat in your oven to about 200f and form quickly. If you overheat it will become brittle.
Where can you get Kydex sheet?
I just got the Kukri ($32)as well as one much like the knife above- a Camillus Les Stroud SK Mountain($62). I wanted a strong bush knife and I like the integral sharpener but I see the case has all kinds of extra junk hanging off. May be useful or just too bulky and will stay in the car.

Hi Phuqd /// Love the Gerber /// here's a praise of mine from a different post elsewhere here...
Have owned several knives of various styles & quality /// got rid of most of them when I aquired my Gerber LMF II about a year ago /// It has a full tang, glass break pommel, 1/4" thick blade that holds an edge very well, good non-slip grip (have blooded it hunting & no issue there), 5 & 1/2 blade so very manageable /// have used for everything from chopping kindling, poking the fire, carving the roast, cleaning the deer, slicing the cheese & popping blisters /// I also feel confident that it is the last knife I will ever buy /// depending on your locale & vendor it will run around $125

The Kukri Machete I got here. http://www.srknives.com/product_detail.php?pid=1368
The Gerber I got from amazon.
Those are the two places I found the best prices.
As for Kydex, lots of places sell it online, and you can actually request a sample of it from them directly.

Yesterday I ordered 3 very good folding knives from amazon.ca for less than $28.00. And that included shipping. Some phenomenal deals. However, amazon.com has some knives on for less than $2.00 (yes, two bucks) and very high quality. But the pricks won't ship up here.
I was in Cabelas on boxing day and they had nothing worthwhile on sale in the knife department at all.
Phuqd,
I will try to post a pic of the sheath I made for my Cold Steel Kukri machete. (Might be a day or two before I can successfully get a pic posted.) I purchased my Kukri at Wholesale Sports in Cowtown for $29.99. But yes, an upgraded sheath is necessary.

Phuqd,
The above are pics of the sheath I made for my Khurki Machete. I have a couple more pics at my blog.

It's $40, but is actually 3 knives, made to government specs. A friend has one; very solid, mine is on the way. If you like knives/swords, it's a great site to explore. Use the sharpening option if you order; it's well worth $18.
I have just received the Apex sharpening system. It is supposed to be a pretty complete package for sharpening your knives. I have yet to try it out, but just to say, I can do a pretty decent edge normally, so am interested in what I can do with this system.
I will give it a go this weekend, and see how I fair, but if anyone afterward has an interest in having an edge placed on their knives, let me know and I will let you know a price, this of course, is only if I am successful....
More to follow, and probably in it's own thread.
Cheers all,

Lansky and Gatco make great sharpening systems for about 1/3 the cost of the APEX and offer similar quality of edge. They also come in a sturdy box and require no surface to mount the holder on. Another option to consider.
