Is this the multi-tool of multi-tools ? I see this item in about 90% of bug out bags.

Should I have this tool in my bag as well ?
How durable is it ?
If I use it everyday how long will it last ?

You should have one multi tool like this. One GOOD one. Your call as to what particular one.

There are quite a few models of Leatherman out there, you need to find the one that fits your needs, they all tend to excel at one thing or another.
The Wave, Charge, and Surge are very similar models to each other. Slightly different materials, different blades, etc...
The Skeletools are also very popular as well.

I carry a Wave with me all the time, it is versatile, and small enough to carry comfortably.
My bugout bag has a Leatherman MUT in it, it is geared more towards firearms, but still has a lot of functionality.

My wave gets used regularly at work, which is a heavy industrial environment, for things it was never designed for, and it has not broken yet.
When it comes to quality Leatherman are tops, and their warranty is also exceptional.

SOG, Gerber, and other companies also make versions as well. I would suggest http://www.srknives.com/ or amazon to find great deals.

I have a Leatherman Core that I got as a gift some years ago and honestly have used it very little. It goes camping with me but I don't EDC a knife at all. I'm usually not far from my truck which is loaded with goodies so I see no reason to EDC much at all other than wits. If I had to set off on foot, rest assured I'd have that tool with me. At under 11 oz. it has a lot of uses.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm going to buy a Leatherman Wave and give it a try. I'll be using it for work, so it's going to get a bit of a work out. I've only seen good reviews about them on youtube. My gut feeling tells me it'll be a good purchase.

My 2-cents: the Leatherman Wave is the best new tool purchase I ever made. I carry it on my belt every day and use it most every day. The blades on this model are on the outside and can be opened with one hand.

The only drawback is that it comes with a screwdriver insert but there is no spot in the sheath to carry it. You have to make the choice between a Robertson bit and a Phillips bit. Since so much stuff comes from China and is made for the US, I found it handy to carry the Phillips for tightening screws on doors, kids toys, etc.

I have a leatherman OHT (one handed tool). I love it to peices. the entire tool can be operated with one hand (hence the name), and differs from the standared leatherman layout significantly. For one thing, it doesnt flip open like a normal multi tool. All the tools are accesable from the outside and can be flicked open one handed. The pliers are flicked out in w wrist flicking motion (hard to explain, if you want to see then check out a youtube vid on it). However im not sure if it is really all that practical as an EDC tool, it is more geared towards emergency service, as it is equipped with a seatbelt cutter, an O2 wrech, etc... also the knife blade is quite a bit smaller then standard leathermans.

The biggest addition to the OHT that I love and was the deciding factor for me was the fact that it is spring loaded. The leatherman waves, surge, etc do not have a spring assist for opening and closing the pliers, which can become a nuisance especially when operating in confined space, such as removing car battery terminals. The OHT is great, but it is a specialized tool for sure, much like the MUT. If your looking for a general purpose tool, any of the major leatherman lines will serve you well.

See you all after.

What do you think? Do you have enough use out of it to give a review?

I've had a Leatherman Charge XTI on my belt each and every day for the past 9 years. Wore out the first sheath (broke the button) but got another off ebay. Unlike the Wave it comes with 2 bit drivers and a selection of bits that stow in the sheath. Very seldom do I need a real screwdriver, and there's room to stow even more more bits if you like. It doesn't have scissors, but I keep a Leatherman Micra on my keychain anyway. Ironically the club bouncers always seem to find the Micra but not the Charge 😆

I use it mostly in my day to day computer-type duties, as well as moderate outdoor activities throughout the year, and whenever I need to work on my car. You never realize how useful it is until you have one 🙂

Congrats on the purchase. I have a Leatherman Wave but that's because it was free lol. They gave them to us at work and I immediately tossed it in my bug out. I EDC a CRKT knife or a SOG knife depending on the day. My wave has held up well for the use it's gotten so no complaints there.
