OK, so I'm thinking about practicing for TEOWAWKI and what the heck, I'm sick of poultry as well so at -20C (-4F) I spark up the BBQ. Gotta love Alberta beef! I may have to have more practice as the steaks were very slightly over done. 😉

Any other suggestions as to how to make prep practice fun? [insert big thumbs up icon that we don't have here]

Ice fishing - you can do it the old school way, and hack through the ice with an axe, or use a manual auger
- build a small temporary shelter
- build a fire
- fish, maybe even cook?
and all in conditions that are some the most difficult to succeed in.

Along those lines a 'eat what you kill/forage' camping trip would be a real eye opener in a forest reserve. For some reason National and Provincial Parks frown on this type of activity. I have a feeling that for most people this would be a weight loss camping trip.

Agreed.

Most people don't practice any sort of hunting or foraging skills. There very well may come a time when these skills are necessary, and without any practice I'm afraid you wont eat. Practice is the most important part of any plan!

We go out camping not to far from where we live, we take our water purifier some dry snacks and the rest is off the land. We wont take a deer or anything like that, a deer would be to much for us for a 4 or 5 night camping trip but, a couple of rabbits are alright.
