Does anyone find it distressing that NK could have nukes on ballistic missiles that are fuelled up and pointed at the sky? No one seems to really care... satellite? EMP? Who knows... 😯
OK, I'm not normally one of those doomer types, but this does actually worry me some...when the news came out yesterday that NK had raised a missile to firing position, I must admit it made me turn my head and pay attention.
NK has done a lot lately that makes me wonder what that 28 year old bully is up to.
What is his end game?
Then the missile got lowered again.
My best guess is that he was testing the water so to speak.
How will his opponents react?
How prepared are they?
Where are resources located?
I would bet my last bean in storage that the US and perhaps even others have nuclear capabilities sitting in subs within range just waiting for them to try a move.
I get the feeling that this may have more to do with South Korea than one may think.
It's a thorn in their side that they will likely never get rid of.
How better to take over SK than to warn the world beforehand not to interfere.
As for the "package" they launched into orbit, I am betting that every nation with satellites in space have had a really close look at it and know exactly what it is.
Will we the people ever know what the governments know?
Nope...2 reasons.
1 - it really isn't anything sinister to worry about.
2 - It is something to worry about, but making it public BEFORE it is dealt with will just cause mass panic.
Whatever is going to happen over there, it is my feeling that it will happen soon.
Targeting the US with a well placed EMP weapon would probably put Canada out of range of the direct impact, but none the less, we would be affected by the aftermath with scarce to non existant electrical supply, fuel shortages and therefore supply shortages, etc.
Still, I remain unconvinced that the US is the direct target...even a perfectly placed EMP weapon would not preclude NK from being wiped off the face of the earth, or at least make it glow for decades to come...
Even that insane kid running the show over there has to realize that!
One would hope.
Masterchief,
Is having a nuke scary for others, yup. Is letting a crazy guy have a nuke scary, yup. Should you lose sleep over it? Nope.
If NK was going to launch a "surprise" attack, why use a ballistic missile that every spy satellite in the world is watching??? You wouldn't. You would load your nuke payload in a 747 cargo conversion and send it FedEx.
This is posturing. NK is kept in a state of starvation, fed propaganda 24/7, the NK people are beaten into submission so they will not revolt. And then their gov't threatens to do worse. The international community tosses them a few million pounds of rice and few million in aid money and NK settles down for a few months.
If neutron weapons existed, I am sure even the UN would make a security council decision to ask that a few neutron weapons were tested in select NK cities to make the problem go away.
Not likely to happen. So, unless the sabre rattling gets louder, expect that NK will be more bark than bite.
Of course, I may be 100% wrong. And you might want to open up the neighbourhood 1950's era nuke shelter and ensure all systems are good to go.
Mountainman.
There was a good breakdown on the NK military assets a few days ago... search for "North Korea military graphic" from the National Post. It is pretty overwhelming to see all at once.
However, do a search on their capabilities versus South Korea, and you'll find that while the South lags behind by about 10-15% in numbers, their equipment and training are from the most powerful, and most experienced fighting army in the world, the USA. This also doesn't take the US capabilities into consideration, either. For the 360+ fighter jets that NK has, SK has 300. But the US has 2,300+. And well over 100 stealth fighters. Not even China has an operational, battle-ready stealth fighter (except for that controversial prototype that most experts agree is a barely functional knock-off).
Anyway, numbers aren't worth a thing. That's old-school military thinking. Within 48 hours of the outbreak of war, expect that NK will have no infrastructure, railroads, airfields, communications, power stations or command posts left intact. With aircraft carrier fleets in the area, multiple air bases capable of sending bombers, cruise missiles and drones... they're toast. I think we can all agree that it will be slaughter. Which is unfortunate because these are innocent but brainwashed nationalistic people who have done nothing wrong other than to be born in a country with a depraved government.
As for their nuclear capabilities, NK doesn't have the technology to miniaturize a nuke to the point of placing it on a ballistic missile. They are at least several years out from that. They still have months to go before they can get their nuclear power plant back up and running at full operation. Needless to say, news outlets are sensationalizing things to the point of tabloid status. "They moved a missile to the east!" and then "They raised the missile!" and then "They lowered the missile!" and then "They said this! They said that! Ooooooh..." Whereas in the Middle East, rockets fall several times a week in Israel, war is ongoing in Syria, and Palestine is cleaning up their dead in the streets.
In a selfish way, I wish that the NK/SK standoff was halted. Get it over with, strike first. The NK yearly tantrums have gone on for too many decades, and if war is pending on the horizon, let's finish it before they get their hands on weapons that can destroy entire civilizations. If this were a bar fight, knock the guy out with fists, before he manages to break a bottle and cut you with it.
I would suspect that between 5 and 10 times the nuke force of NK is sitting underwater within range of NK. I would also suspect that 24.5 million lives would end in very short order if the 3rd generation (and I also suspect genetically abnormal) leader of NK knows this (good time to lower that missile huh?). Above all I suspect that the NK missile threats are more of a 'look at this shiny thing' distraction put on by those that really control the world to take the focus of the people away from the global financial collapse that is well under way.
Humor me for a minute, do you think a power hungry, genetic misfit can't be bought? Those who are doing the buying already have central banks in all but 3 countries on this planet. We are talking about pockets several trillions of dollars deep. Really now, everything has a price. Yours and millions of other lives cost very little in the big picture.
Like the old saying goes, 'If you want to find the truth, follow the money.'.
Hope I didn't pee on anyone's parade but that is the way I see it.

I don't think that is selfish, it would be a practical solution. The longer the issue remains unresolved, as it will because there has not been a political solution in 60 years, the harder the issue becomes to solve. A little pain now or a lot of pain later situation. 😈
All great posts... thanks for your insight. I just wonder if he has some sort of ace up his sleeve... it just seems so illogical to be taunting the US and SK when they are completely outgunned. They have a very young leader with little experience who is backed by a large military who is whispering god knows what in his ear. The whole situation just seems different than any other that I can remember in a long time... maybe it's just the satellite and nuke testing since we haven't really seen it lately, at least not combined with this magnitude of threats.
Welcome to the Forum Masterchief.
I just caught wind this morning that North Korea has a satellite above the eastern us at about 300 miles up. There is speculation by some that they have some sort of super EMP device on that satellite.
I won't speculate, I'm only repeating what I have heard. All the same, if it's true that would be one hell of an ace card up NK's sleeve.

That satellite was launched into the perfect orbit for an EMP... I can only speculate from the info I read on the news, but it's only a few months later and already the US is saying that NK may have ballistic missile sized nukes... it is possible that they sent one up on the satellite. The reports show that their previous underground nuke tests were low yield for today's technology, but would more fit the profile of a super EMP, which they have acquired the designs for. I must agree with the rest of you that if it did have a special package on board, that something would happen to said satellite to make it inoperative... BTW I haven't heard a thing about that satellite since it was orbiting uncontrollably... does anyone know what the latest story is?
Emp is exactly what i think would be the best option for NK if they do decide to attack. It is the most logical move and most devastating one. That will cause confusion then panic. Next will come radicals in the usa wanting to fight the govt and take advantage of the situation. The most effective way to defeat an enemy is to disable their supplies which in turn will de-moralize the people and then a ffa will start to happen until order is restored.
Nukes are scary but people are more scary when their needs are taken away and survival instinct takes over.

BelowTheRadar, mind posting a source? It is completely not that I distrust you, I just want to read it, too. Can't find anything on CNN, BBC, AP, Reuters, and other mainstream sites.
