Is there or has anyone started a Northern Chapter/Group? They say that safety is in numbers, but I see it pointless to go down to Calgary for meetings and such. I would like to meet fellow preppers from Edmonton and points north.

I would like to meet as a group and see what we could do together how would you surgest we start. Looking at the replies it doesn’t look promising though, I would like to see us get organized where we have a week end meet and do some bartering like some of the other groups do I think it would be good to bounce things of each other sitting around the fire or just meet for coffee and get to know each other.

RTG,

The best advise I can offer is to post when and where the first meeting will be held. And just do it. See who shows up. Keep posting where and when, in short order - a month or two you should have the core group.

There are quite a few members up in the Edmonton area. I think if someone takes the bull by the horns, an effective group should be established.

Best of luck. Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

well, my work schedule is tight, but I think that anyone that is serious about this should get together for a weekend or two and compare notes. see who has resources that would benefit the group.

More of a central Albertan to be honest, but I'm in the Edmonton region quite often right now. The calgary group is a fair distance away, so I'd be more inclined to head north to have a coffee with folks.

Hello RTG, TCG and others interested in this thread.
I say gc mountainman has hit the nail on the head as usual. The Calgary group gets people out because they are proactive. They pick a place and a date and let everyone know.
If you do the same, people will try and make it work. You may have to have a few meetings with just one, two or three people at first or you might get lucky and several more show up. The point is go for it.
There are meetings in the Calgary and Lethbridge areas often and so there is no reason an Edmonton or Lloydminister, Fort Mac, Grande Prairie or other group can't have the same success.
Pick a spot and a time and start a new thread.
Good luck.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it

How about we just meet at the Tim Horton's next to Cabela's some Saturday / Sunday afternoon and then head over to Cabela's for a group "shop." Never hurts having someone "have your back" when shopping in a place like that so you don't spend too much. 😆

FYI: I'm planning on being at Cabela's likely 2pm or 3pm this Saturday, i.e. April 13-2013. I have to return something. I might want to buy something too, but I'd rather not ... right now. 🙂

Just thought I would put this out there... High Prairie is having their annual Gun & Sportsman Show April 20 & 21, 2013. Not sure what time the doors open. I'm working nights over the weekend but wouldn't mind checking it out. Is anyone else going? Which day? Got time for a quick coffee or meet and introduction? I'm not on this site often - but I will try to check back. (But I do check facebook and read the Alberta Preppers page if anyone is on there too.)

what is the Alberta Preppers Page? Is it a personal blog of someone or an organized forum?

Alberta Preppers (facebook)-It's a group that was created to bring like-minded people together. Once you've been accepted in the group, you can post just about anything. I don't recall if you have to be a member to read all the postings. Often there are links to other sites that are well worth checking out. I'm still a baby at the whole prepping/survival thing so I find it all very interesting.

thanks and goodluck with getting a group started. Even if you never form a 'formal' unit, you can at least meet for coffee and share ideas.

Hi RTG, Foden12 here,
We are just a hand full of seriously peppers just getting together, approximately 6 or 7 of us. We are looking to join with more like minded people. Most of us are in the Fort Sask area, and meet when we can near Ponoka. But we need a more stable group. We have some good ideas and just need to be in the right group, right area at the right time to meet and discuss.
Have you any ideas as to groups in our area or north of Edmonton. Hope to hear from you soon.
