Have thought of these also to put on a piece of land as a home. 2 things I fear here, tornados as I have seen these picked up and tossed like rag dolls and heat..so if we did do this I would have it covered with soil in a hill sort of way (like a dome home) and just have grasses etc grow on hill (berm) that way also it is protected from winds, storms, lightning?,
(except south side windows/doors) ...also it would not be visible from the air and would look like the land
One gun club I visited used several of the culverts, (actually the oblong ones) for their firing range that was under ground. 8' high and 4' wide.

Ricochet city? ❓
I've been looking into steel Calverts twelve feet round and weld alot of them together
Google Culvert House
.. Culvert emergency housing
... Culvert bomb shelter
> see what you get, lots of info there. Since I used to drive big trucks for a living, you can get the Culverts longer and bigger as well. Some you can get halves of and then put them together. Normally they are joined up with Concrete Block houses for off shoot lines.
Ok kinda cool http://urbunkers.blogspot.ca/
This one was cool but not for me at this time or money wise but I like the video as they explain what they did for the Customer. These guys will sit down with you and discuss your fears and prep ideas then build to suit. I really like the use of the NBC air filters.

Agreed ranger the lottery would help but then you could just buy a place in the future space hotel lol
Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it
I know this is a little off topic but what is every opinion on if we ever had to evacuate earth do u think people will just do like in the movies or do u think there's already something in place a
Say a space ship or station or even a generational ship

That's no good for me, for I have a fear of falling. I'd prefer to have my feet on the ground. 😀

I agree with ranger...I would be too afraid to leave the planet...I truly would be scared to death
Chickens! 😀 Where is your sense of adventure?
Well mars one is a site where anyone can sign up to be going to mars to start a colony in 2025 free trip just have to sit in a tin can for 6 months till you get there plus the rest of your life you'll have to wear a suit to go outside and if you ever get stuck away from the camp you just wait to die but on the plus side your ex will never find you lol

My hubby went up for a week plus visit at the mars camp on Ellesmere Island, he was in the base camp but did get a tour of the mock living set up.. Its very interesting, he took the video camera for me, but its done from the hip, so I can listen to the talks and see everything just its done from a different view then you would normally see.
I also got homedone video's of the main camp and a number of the other projects that were taking place at the camp. It was very interesting to say the least. My personal favorite is him filming the discovery channel crew filming a spot that comes out in their documentry later..
He found it very interesting to say the least but he said, he would never want to live in one, would have to agree, good luck to those that would choose to do something like this..

I have a great idea for shipping container bunker that will have a large garden/communal area with high cieling so you will be less likely get cabin fever. Problem is money. It can house 4 families or more. I have done up a floorplan and where to reinforce the structure. Best thing is. You only need to go 1 container height deep and it is 3 containers high. Finding the right location is also a challenged. It would sort of be like an earth sheltered home. Supporting the containers on the outside and inside then encasing the entire bunker with concrete would be best i think to spread the load. I am thinking it would cost about 100-150k max for materials and outfitting it with the life support systems and power generation. I am no expert engineer so dont do anything without proper consulting an expert.
Cost would be 10k per person maybe less if talks are serious. But i ratherr do it myself and recruit people to join. If we all had money to spare...
