We all like to think we are bug out ready and some of the people in this example thought so too. I watched this video and thought about some of the posts I have read here. Even with all of the information we have at our finger tips some preppers would fall into the category of the supposed preppers being ridiculed in this video. Just my opinion...

Than= I’d rather be rich than poor.
Then= I first became hungry then I ate.
There = She is there now.
Their = They have their things.
They're = They're going to the mall.
To = They came to the house.
Too = That's too bad.

Great video
I wonder how many of us would be the same way
Late starting or not having everything we needed
Or just forgetting something like food or water because something else was more important
I for one would like to try a weekend trip to see how a group in Calgary, red deer, or Edmonton would fair

Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it

Watched the video and had a few thoughts.... I am from HighRiver, so I got to experience a disaster like this first hand... It revealed a lot to me about myself & my prepping. I realized that all the bug out bags & pails of what ever could not have helped most people in this kind of a situation! Certainly nothing that I had packed in my bug out bag was of any value to me. Here I was faced with a real emergency and all of my preps where of no help! Never needed a gun, a knife, a sleeping bag, long underwear or camo, a flash light or a compass! Not one person out of 13,000 people in High River would have been helped by that kind of bag.
Watching the video I was wondering how knowing how to camp would have helped people in New York,it wouldn't have, no matter how much experience they had at it or what kind of equipment they had!

I don't watch Doomsday Preppers, truly dislike reality shows, and don't like how the media sensationalizes everything. Having said that, I liked this video for a number of reasons. One, it showed how there are small things we often don't think about that can make a big difference when out, like using a bladder bag instead of hard plastic. Second, it shows everyday people who were affected by disaster and have changed their view of being prepared. There is even a fire fighter, who everyone would view as a highly respectable person, not a nut job. Finally, it showed preppers as being a community of regular people just trying to survive together, rather than portrayed as some crazy people with a bomb shelter and a complete arsenal at their disposal (not that these are bad things, but most people don't have these things and likely won't ever have them). I would be interested to do a weekend, or longer if possible, to see how bugging out would be achieved and how prepared I am.

Watching this video, I can't help but wonder what would have happened during their outing had there been hurricane force winds and downpours... And had there been a million of them.

It's commendable that they are learning and getting together, but I wouldn't call the local news to make this a story unless the group was really an example to emulate. Interesting nonetheless that for once, Preppers are not displayed as wing nuts...

That said, I echo ladyboomer, I've never been of the belief that grabbing a bagfull of camping gear and heading I to the wilds is my best option, despite having taken many formal survival courses and being quite comfortable outdoors. I'm more into having a couple of bags with clothes for the family (you know when that sweater still fits you but you've had it for a few years and don't wear it anymore) and a list of motels in different directions and distances. I also have bottled water and high-energy snack food. Finally a radio is a must.

Don't get me wrong, I also have camping gear and all, but in case of a natural disaster where I need to evacuate my house, that's not going to be the first thing thrown in the truck.

I'm no fan of Bilbo O Baggins prepping (BOB) but I suppose its a phase most of us go through. What I was encouraged of in this news cast was that half the people in this group were African American or mixed ethnicity. It means the prepper movement is growing up. Gone are the days of the exclusive aryan nation survivalist. May they burn in hell. Now, If only we could nix the exclusivist political, class and religious side of the survival world, I'm sure a lot more people would feel its not nuts to prep or become self reliant.
