Hi Prom I have a couple of those radios. They are not bad and the fact that they float really is a real bonus. I always carry one when I go sailing. This way I can't lose my cell phone which does not float!
I have 2 BOBs one for me and one for my Mrs.ive been prepping for awhile,we have easy 60 day supply of water and food, yet when I have the latest and upto daftest gear something new shows up,so updating is important, there is no end to prepping,
Since I live in an apartment I have to be creative.
My first thought was storage, privacy and defense.
Luckily, with underground parking and a storage locker behind my vehicle, along with "room to spare" in the apartment itself, I'm not too bad.
But, I also have an offsite storage locker - big enough to fit my 4x4 SUV with lots of room to spare, with its doors wide open - before I put "some of my preps" and excess inside. Right now, it gets used as offsite storage and as a workshop, so I still have lots of space in it.
At the office, I have (hidden) storage capability too.
So, let me itemize my preps, now that you know I've thought about storage.
1. BOB(s) - at each location - as back-ups, though a BOB always accompany me in my 4x4 SUV. My vehicle BOB gets "revised" each spring / fall.
2. Water - 4 x 5gal jugs in the apartment, 6x24 flats of water bottles in my parking/storage locker, and another 4x24 flats of water bottles at the offsite location; I also have two means of purifying water, which is in every bug-out bag.
3. Fuel - vehicle tank never drops below half; maintain an extra 80 liter (4x20 l jerries) in my underground locker, and another 80 liter (4 x 20) at the offsite location. Carry siphon hose in my own SUV. Cooking fuel, i.e. propane, kept at offsite storage; for an apartment bug-in, would use sterno / BBQ (conversion) / solar cooker back-up on top floor south-facing balcony.
4. Shelter - bug-in plan for short term at apartment, vehicle or office; scoping out Bug-Out locations and possible acreage purchases; own three sets of camping gear, one which is ultra-light for back-country hiking.
5. Food - kitchen cabinets are never empty, just as my freezer is not; pantry always full. Extyra shelves/storage/ (wheeled) rubbermaids in apartment designated & tested for an extra two months of canned / dried food. Another four wheeled/stacked rubbermaids in my parking/storage locker easily loadable into SUV ( along with other locker contents). Maintain a full pantry at my work office good enough to maintain me for a week. (Note: thinking about moving one of my rubbermaids to office ....) I also have a decent food drier, and Vacuum Sealer, but consider myself a bit behind on that front.
6. Navigation / Communication: redundant cell phones (two different #s) and GMRS/FRS radio sets (2 x 2 sets, enclosed in Faraday cans). The radios and cell phones all have pre-programmed lifelines / family encryption codes. (NOTE: try out Life360 on a cell phone..... Preppersaurus introduced me to it. He and I have matching lifelines / encryption codes - we're not related, we just think alike.) Thinking of "gifting" another set of GMRS/FRS radios (in Faraday cans) to my youngest step-son, his wife and the grand-kids in Lethbridge, but they aren't fully onboard yet. I also have backroad map books for BC and Alberta, along with redundant GPS systems, with my newest GPS being a Garmin nuvii LMT - I like the idea of knowing if in the USA if the main traffic arteries are getting backed up .... Also carry a compass in each of my BOBs, with two of the best ones being in my vehicle BOB and other being in my apartment BOB (a back-country backpack).
7. Computers/HDDs/Electronics - all necessary backups performed regularly, with a back-up computer XP laptop always "Faraday'd" in a ready-to-go metal briefcase stored offsite. Another "Faraday'd" ready-to-go metal briefcase is always ready to go, with a secondary back-up HDD, which I can place my tablet into, if necessary. Have the capacity to maintain a third personal back-up at the office under "my lock & key", but don't for fear of encroaching upon company IP/confidentiality operational rules (don't want the company saying that it is their's even when I could clearly identify it isn't). I use multiple level encryption on all storage files, whether accessing through XP, VISTA, Windows 7, Android or Linux; each and every storage encryption can be accessed through either of those OS platforms, but only by me - or two others to whom I've entrusted the encryption keys.
8. Transport - I drive a six (6) year old medium-sized Toyota SUV, well tested, but lots of room for more mileage. Needs some work this year again on the brakes, tires, and I think suspension, but all in all an excellent cruising / off-road vehicle. I almost purchased a Tacoma recently but decided against it. I'm (kind of) debt free, and I'd like to keep it that way. Considering purchasing a "beater" 4x4 pick-up / SUV, say like an International or Scout, which would / should be more EMP hardened; also hoping I can some such cheap too which I could use as a pet project and rebuild.
9. Self-defense - work experience! (can't say anymore online)
10. Fire-arms - don't own, but experienced. Considering getting my PAL and .... (can't say anymore online).
Guess that is enough for now.
NOTE: I didn't discuss Clothing, as I could go on .... Suffice it to say, I'm prepared at all locations and in each BOB for every eventuality - except no HazMat suits. 😆
If it isn't evident, I lean to being "self"-sufficient, but would prefer being "co"-efficient. 😀
Looking forward to "meeting" any that are interested, either by online discussion or in person, as the opportunity provides.

Is what you say worth at least a Canadian nickel now?
Cause two cents ain't worth squat anymore !

Self-sufficient is good. Co-efficient is better.

Glad to see some older threads being awoken by new members.
gprs,
That sounds like a pretty comprehensive list with alot of redundancy built into it! I hope you have luck getting some Edmontonians together for some casual meetings in order to build a Northern group because I don't think a lone wolf would last long in a true end of society scenario... "co-efficient" would be much more preferable I would think.
Good luck!
