I have started to work on the spreadsheet and I was going to add a topic column. That way if you are looking for say first aid, then it can be just filtered. My problem is that I am not not sure how to label all the topics.

Suggestions labels would be appreciated.

If I find a place for a free download, I am adding that too

I was picturing

1. Title
2. Author
3. Topic
4. Fiction or Non-Fiction (so that it can be filtered if someone needs to)
5. Rating (1-5 perhaps?)

Just a thought...

Lol we think alike how scary.

I have been adding both ispn numbers, any PDF links that I can find and a comment section.

I have added a topic column but not sure how to label. Eg Heath, food, herbs, camping, etc. I was hoping to make it "standard". Maybe if I just put it together, combined we could fill in what I haven't.

NorthernCX,

I have many of my references in PDF and I keep them on one of two USB thumbdrives. 12 Gb of the 16Gb available. I add to these when I find new stuff. I am aware that in an EMP environment the tools to read these devices may not exist anymore or the data on the USB's may get destroyed but for the rest of known threats this data is safe, as long as I can find power.

I like PDF, too bad my MP3 player does not read this format. 🙁

I hear printing on gold leaf pages keeps forever. It is rumoured there may be 3 such libraries located on planet Earth. Not sure if that is true. But obviously, preserving knowledge has challenged mankind from the dawn of time through the rise and fall of all empires great and small.

Mountainman.

PS - Some very good posts happening here. Great.

I've considered that, but in all honesty I'm not prepping for any one particular scenario- based on odds of probability, EMP/Solar flare is low on the list. That being said, while I keep as much as I can in hard copy, perhaps a backup set of reader/USB/SD cards and a solar charging unit could be stored in a shielded container with Faraday cage as a failsafe, and updated as the library grows. I'm still working on that cheapo solar setup touched on in the Alt Energy thread.

As you can see, I can not get an excel sheet to load. When I copied and pasted to "paint" it was 2 pages, which are too small to read.

When I did it a few lines it worked better.

but still have to figure out how to do it as an excel file

Have you tried using google docs?
That's how I've uploaded spreadsheets for others to view and/or edit in the past. You'd have to know our emails though to grant access if I recall correctly...

anyone else have other ideas?

HOCUS POCUS...
ABRA CADABRA
{POOF}

They won't show in the post, but at least you can open them.
I only added .xls and .xlsx as I think most people use excel or something that can reed them.
If you still use Lotus 123, sorry, but it's not supported by the software.
