I've been using Freecycle ( http://www.freecycle.org ) for some of my prep, have found the sites incredibly helpful and suggest that if you're a serious prepper, you check out the freecycle sites in your area.

There are also service-for-service websites that are great and you meet wonderful people. I recently received 2 large mason jars of dried, homemade soup mix in exchange for helping with a cat emergency (I foster for a small rescue group).

As someone who is currently between jobs (if anyone in the GTA is in need of an awesome office manager/admin assistant, I'm available), these sites have been a real god-send and I encourage everyone, especially preppers, to check these sites out.

One more thing: over the years, I've volunteered my time serving meals to the homeless as well as donating to agencies that provide food, clothing, toiletries, etc. (in Toronto, Ve'ahavta is great) and now that I'm in need, they have no qualms helping me out. Just a thought - karma - it's a good thing.

That is sooooo true.

The free cycle idea is a good one, I had heard about them a few years ago and then promtly forgot about it, thanks for the reminder.

Another idea, I live in a relatively small community and the dumps around here have a reuse store or shed that you can get items for free or next to nothing.

I'm fond of freecycle, and use it regularly. So far, everyone I've dealt with on it has been excellent, whether they are offering goods they no longer need, or picking up items I no longer need. I highly recommend checking it out.

So, in looking around the forums I haven't seen much in the way of threads for bartering or trading, and thought a thread for such for us Albertans could be useful. I know it's hard to compete with things like the Trader publications and Kijiji, but as preppers we sometimes are looking for or have items not so 'marketable' to the average person. Hopefully I'm not breaking any forum rules or going over old ground here.

Hi moona,
this is indeed the thread you would use to post ads for buying, selling or trading prepper related goods (firearms and anything requiring a PAL not permitted).
I have thought of making regional threads for this, and will probably get to that soon.
Thanks for the suggestion

I got tired off all the emails flooding my inbox and getting home to reply to an ad only to find out 100 people have already replied for the same item.

Freecycle had way more want ads than give ads, and I also got tired of emails from mods asking people not to ask for luxuary items.

Why did I join Canadian Preppers Network?
Well I was going to join the UK Network but those bloody Brits don't know how to speak proper English! 😉
