Hi everybody, i used to frequent this site almost daily, as well as some other 'big name' sites related to preparedness and also met up with a few people i met here, but since i changed jobs i have kind of stayed away. Not because i dont believe we should be prepared but because i am working far away from my wife& kids and dont really know what i would do if there was a problem while i was out of town . This may be partially a venting post but also i need advise and motivation. I cant ignore things, i an currently about 195km from the Nwt. But my family is in southern BC. I dont prep for societies down fall, i do believe that is a possibility but we would get enough notice that i would get home first. I am worried about natural disasters and man made situations, (earthquakes, terrorism, riots, Stanley cup losses etc 😉 I have food for about a month, maybe a week of water 20 gallons approx, basic water filters and basic first aid, she knows the basics, i have casually informed her (repeatedly) that the worst will come 3-5 Days AFTER the event when people run out of food and we need to keep quiet about ours. There is a fine line between helping others and people thinking thay can stop by for a hand out. She is coming around tho, its gone from me being from me being tinfoily to realizing that we need to have a bit on hand for what ever reason. I keep fuel for the gen and some propane to cook. She has 'no idea' where the key is for the firearms or the ammo cabinet 😉 But what do i do now?

Get the WHOLE family on board. Talk to the kids on the value of 'food insurance'. If they're old enough, explain how food and goods are delivered 'just in time'. Start them down the rabbit hole. Have they started shooting balloons yet:)? Camping trips?

Start showing the wife pictures of the lineups for groceries in Venezuela/hurricane sandy aftermath. Explain to her the value of getting a PAL to ensure the safe storage laws are followed in your absence:).

Next there is always strengthening the house from burglars, securing your own get home plan, etc....
