Hello BCers,

A few of us were recently drooling over a conversation about the XCR.

For those who don't know, this is a a non-restricted rifle in Canada that you can take with you out in the bush (unlike the AR15 which is restricted to range use only). However, it still accepts AR magazines which means you can still borrow your buddy's gear, standardize on a common ammo caliber and of course use LAR pistol magazines (10 rounds instead of normal non-pistol magazines which are restricted to 5 rounds). The XCR is also very ergonomically friendly and ambidextrous. You can do almost everything from both the left and right side (safety, mag release, bolt release).

Anyhow, if you're still reading this, you probably already know what it is... a very nice rifle for those bound by Canadian firearms laws. A very nice $2375 rifle at that!

So that leaves the obvious question, how can we get that price down? Well I would like to organize a little group buy. The idea is to get a few people together who have a $1000 deposit ready on hand. Once we have 3-5 purchasers together, we will then approach a few Canadian vendors and see if we can't get a bulk price on them.

If you're interested and have the funds and desire for such a nice rifle, PM me to get in with the group buy. The faster we get a group together, the better. I don't know how much of a discount we are likely to get. But I think $125-200 is feasible negotiating ground.

I will admit that this is a fine combat weapon, and very reliable but unfortunatly it is dedicated to combat only. The .223 round was designed as a light short to long range round used to injure oponents in combat. Unfortunatly as preppers we dont all have a lot of money to spend buying dedicated combat weapons. The largest game that can really be taken with this round are coyotes and varmits. A more practical firearm would be an M14 or similar semi auto loading rifle that shoots a heavier round such as the .308 or 7.62x39 that can take down larger game animals like deer or bear.

Hey DaVinci, google this thing! It is multi-calibre capable! You can buy it in 7.62x39 and 6.8 SPC for hunting!

The conversion kits from calibre to calibre are about $750 in Canada. The parts changed to switch calibres are the barrel, bolt and deflector (and obviously magazines). You can make this calibre switch in about 10 minutes in the field with 2 hex wrenches.

Bottom line is this rifle can do more than the light duty .223 'combat' you mentioned (although that is a lot of fun for sport shooting too like 3gun or tacrifle). You can run .223 for sport events at the local range and then swap out to 7.62x39 or 6.8 SPC for bush use hunting.

While this group buy is for the XCR-L (light weight calibres) there is an XCR-M recently released that is .308 and will have other larger calibre conversions over time if that's your thing.

Also FYI, .223 is fine for hunting with the appropriate round. Remember civilians don't have to use FMJ, you can select a round with better expansion and hunt small game including deer. (I'm not familiar with BC regs, but I know the .223 with the appropriate round will take a deer confidently).

Yes Elrond, I am familiar with the different types of projectiles used from fmj's to hollow points and most in between. Here in canada the .223 rifles are marketed as a varmit rifle at best. I actually dont think that it is legal to use for hunting large game though you could probably take a deer down with it I would not advise it unless one is a crack shot and experienced hunter. But thanks for the heads up on its versitility on being able to accept many different calibers. that is definately good to know. As a long term experienced hunter and former firearm salesman it is my opinion that .30 caliber ammo or better are much more suited to a dual use ( combat/ survival) ammunition than 223. And it is so much cheaper to shoot surplus 7.62 than .223

Hey Guys, don't get into a pissin match. Elronds original Post is getting off track. I personally own the Robarms XCR, this is a fantastic rifle capable of multiple rolls unavailable in other platforms currently available. I have gone through the AR, M14, CZ and have been mostly unsatisfied. I currently own the XCR in 7.62x39, yes there is also a great abundance of Russian/Chinese surplus ammo available at low cost. There are also many companies now like Federal (Fusion and Power Shock Rounds) Sellior and Bellot ( SP) Hornady (SST) who produce dedicated hunting rounds in 7.62x39. As for the rifle itself, it is easy to operate and maintain as it was designed to be accurate (.223/5.56) and as reliable and tough as the AK. I have run close to 4 k rounds through mine without incident. I have been very pleased with mine. Again this rifle is
NON-RESTRICTED......Yes the XCR is expensive but I have always said that you get what you pay for.

I was actually looking into the Robinson some time ago and as much as I really like the gun, I had to rule it out as non-economical. I mean I would love to have one of those in my safe but even with the "group buy" how much can you knock the price down ? Lets say you we get it down to just under 2k, that is still pretty steep. I have paid $700,- for a CZ 58 and it cost me another $ 220,- to dress it up real nice ( kit shipped from Israel). So I'm in it for under a grand and have the advantage of 7.62x39 ammo, which has a lot better punch power and is dirt cheap since there is tons of surplus of it. That leaves me with a lot of funds for real practice. It also came with "pinned" 4 magazines which I would doubt the Robbie comes with. As a bonus I picked up an SKS and put it into Tapco stock & scope attachment and again, very well functioning economical rifle for the same caliber. I fully realize the difference of CZ vs. Robbie but still it's $ hundreds vs. thousands.

Tried a SIG615 on the weekend I have to say it was a good feel. Two mounties where shooting one at the range and we asked to try it, they said sure so we gave it a try. Nice feel not as heavy as my M14, good hit power but less than my M14, (cost is prohibitive $2600.00 plus ) My M14 cost $700.00 with 1000 rounds of ammo. So what if its was Chinese it's half North American now with add ons 🙂
We regularly shooy targets behind a concrete block wall filled with sand, blast the blocks outta the way and smokes the targets behind.
I can hardly wait to take the M14 moose hunting.

Cheers

That's right Jeff. Lets stay on track! This thread if for those interested specifically in the RobArms XCR.

We can all discuss the merits of your personal favorite in another thread. Some of us have already handled them/test fired, tried other alternatives like the CZ, SKS, Swiss Arms, etc... and have narrowed it down to this as choice #1.

We have enough people to start haggling, so we are setting a deadline. If you are interested you need to get in touch this week before Friday. We plan to make an offer next weekend to one local vendor. Remember folks, this is just like buying a car. We make an offer and are ready to buy right then and there, wallets in hand, but also ready to walk away. You gotta tempt them with the fact that they can ring through a lot of sales very quickly with no work for them. We save them time/effort, they reduce the price for quick cash.

But if they don't take the bait, we have 3 vendors lined up we can try.
