WildE,

For an Ontarian, you are well versed in the practices of the Salish. I am impressed. There is a good display of Salish/Shuswap Pit Huts in Kamloops. At the pow-wow grounds, the Kamloops Indian Band (KIB), has an interpretive trail that includes housing used by the Band.

Speaking of vehicles and tents merging have you seen some of them trailers for overland trekking?? Some good ideas, but with such a niche market they are jacking the prices. Like $20,000 for a trailer with an elevated tent platform and a tent. Yah, the trailer is cool and can be dragged anywhere - water included, but $20,000!!!

Good trailer to get ideas from.

I lived in BC for 10 yrs, was a professional photographer and shot the BCNRA - BC Native Rodeo Association, also the BC Rodeo Association
sports/action/lifestyle portraits and some photojournalism
Lived in Grand Forks, moved to Sunshine Coast then Whistler/Pemberton/Squamish
Moved back to Ontario for family, boy that worked out well!!!! LOL

As you know there are a lot of Native Peeps in the Military, and I listen and learn as well. Spent time on reserves in the Prairies and in Ontario.

Okay. I have learned new respect for bike trailers!! Some good ideas. Set it up to be pulled behind the Lightfoot Cycles ATC. Now that could be a very good BOV/Post-event BOV when there is no liquid fuels. This requires more research, thanks for the lead.

They could also be put behind regular ATV's as well, or regular Mntn Bikes, or dogs or cows, or even goats.

I have seen a good looking tent unit. Les Toiles Cabanon from France. They are used at a campground here in Drummondville, QC.

What do you think??

There are a lot of Canadian Made ones that are very similar, Canada made is important to me.
It is a great style, on the platform would be good in winter as well, Fall Spring, good overhand, looks very decent

In resent years My hunting and camping buddies and I have started using those portable garaged you can buy at Costco for $250.00.

We throw and extra tarp over the top in the winter it helps keep the condensation down since we use a small wood stove made from a 30lb. LP tank that we exhaust our one end through an aluminum heat sheild thats 24" x 24" we suspend a half size metal chimney pipe frpm the centre poles using 3/16" steel rods keep it about 36" from the top of the shelter roof. We have the stove in the middle and it keeps it very warm even when we go up to the rest station neer the old toll booth on the Coquahal hwy in Febuary (most time it's around -20.
Put in a couple of those stick in doors you can get for green houses from C Tire. With one buddies help we can set up in about 45 minutes and move in.

Had one of the old prospecter type canvas tent it was good as long as you re water proofed it every fall with a wax and kerosene mixture.
set it up and paint that smelly crap on and leave set up for a week to get rid of the smell of the kerosene.
Remeber this is a very flamable tent now.

As far as I concerned those nylon tents are a short term shelter only noy enough room afor storing your stuff and far to flimsy for long term sheltering.
We stayed in a so called 10 man (3 larg men 250lb. +) for 14 days we found it to close after the first week.

This is just mt two cents.

Rember Be Prepared

Spam is becoming more problematic here. I know nothing about blogs etc... but is there any way to reduce or filter this?

yes, you make everyone sign up with a captcha first
assign someone who will check all the sign ups and approve them
make some of the boards open to read only
make most of the boards access by membership only

so more mods and helpers

Hi guys:

I dont think "arcotecto" was doing SPAM. Educational information should not be considered spam. Actually arcotecto did study at Vancouver, BC. And he has respect and good feelings to BC & CANADA too.

Have a beatiful life.

Funny how the website posted asks for donations. Do either of you have anything to offer or is this just a fundraising thing? Are you looking for members for your community of just asking for cash? This is not the place to raise funds and such activities are not welcome here. Have a nice life to you too! Funny thing is that your IP and that of Arcotecto are the same, therefor I have no choice but to ban your IP.

Policing makes perfect. Spam the site then create a second ID to support the first. At least it was not a bot.

Howdy All,

With a few new folks around these days maybe we should bring the old canvas tent topic back on the radar.

Anyone seen any good deals on canvas tents lately??

I believe there is an outfit called Deluxe Wall Tents that is based in BC. I have seen their website and they seem to make a quality product. Anyone ever purchase from them??

Keep dry out there,

Mountainman.
