Personally, I think you can't go wrong with a mutual aid agreement. I already have one in place with a friend out east. But I'd also like to set up a small scale one for island people too. ie: earthquake/transport system shutdown; you're stuck on the island/mainland, and your preps are in the other side of the strait, who can you call?

Thoughts, anyone?

Hello Jonesy. I'm new to the site. It's off topic but do you know how many of us are on Vancouver Island?

Hey Steve.

There's a few islanders on here for sure! There's a north island meet up happening soon. See the thread on the bc index page.

As far as the mutual aid idea, I actually stole it off a "preparedness podcast" episode. The deal is you have to give aid when requested, no questions asked. Assuming it's a reasonable request; ie no frivolous 'help me move' requests, and not something like a monetary loan. However, if it's a legitimate request, and you balk, such as 'needing to watch the game' you're off the mutual aid list. The more people and locations, the better.

Jonesy, sounds good in theory ... now what happens if someone shows up with their 5 kids, 4 dogs, 43 cats, and a python, wanting aid? and they are in no hurry to rebuild their home, or find other arrangements. Got Questions?

Hey PrepperSaurus.

I'd be happy if they showed up with that much food. I mean the pets, not the kids. (Too dark ?:). Seriously, I would think the family would try to bring as many supplies with them as they could, to offset the burden of extra mouths. If not, then think of this two ways. Either the disaster is localized, and they would reimburse you for your trouble later. Or, the emergency could be a large enough scale to require extra hands to help out/keep guard/scrounge/whatever your plan is.

Community is key, not prepper islands. To put it on the flip side, would you prefer they turned you away in your time of need because your group was bigger than their preferred max size? Those are things you can talk about beforehand. I'd personally be happier in a known location in a tent than on the road as a refugee with no hope for my family.
