😀 SO IF YOU REALLY NEED A FIREARM FOR YOUR BUG OUT KIT AND DO NOT HAVE YOUR POL, PAL OR RESTRICTED( 12/6) PERMIT(s). AND DO NOT HAVE THE TIME OR WANT TO TAKE THE COURSE FOR ANY NUMBER OF REASONS, YOU CAN LEGALLY PURCHASE A FLINTLOCK BLACKPOWDER RIFLE AT MOST SPORTING GOODS STORES OR AT "CABALAS" OR "WHOLESALE SPORTS" ON LINE. After an entire afternoon of research on this loophole Nick, unfortunately I have to inform you that this is not correct. The only instance in which a functioning firearm can be obtained without a license (Legally anyways), is if the firearm classifies as an antique - in which case I would advise STRONGLY AGAINST using it, as there is no guarantee that the condition of an antique firearm is stable enough for field use.
😀 I COULD ALSO INFORM PREPPERS HOW TO ACTUALLY OWN AND CARRY CERTAIN HANDGUNS ANYWHERE THE LAW ALLOWS HUNTING OR TARGET SHOOTING, ALONG WITH A LETTER FROM THE CHIEF R.C.M.P FIREARMS OFFICER IN .B.C. SAYING ITS PERFECTLY LEGAL,.. BUT I DO NOT WISH TO DO SO. I AM SURE SOME LESS INFORMED WILL SAY "impossible" . 😆 I ONLY WISH TO POST FACTS AND INFORMATION TO PEOPLE INTERRESTED IN PREPPING WITH A MINIMUM OF CASH IN THEIR BUDGET.I HAVE OVER 50 YEARS OF OUTDOOR /SURVIVAL/WEAPONS EXPERIENCE GAINED IN CANADA AND ABROAD. GET INFORMED-BE PREPARED. N.N.
As cool as this is Id have to agree FV...using an antique vs my AR15 would be a loose loose. Really if it comes down to the shit hitting the fan who's got time to check licences? Just saying.

I agree, someone with a blackpowder flintlock will lose in a head to head fight against someone with an AR15. BUT, any gun is better than none. Modern flintlocks are well made and accurate. If you're a good sniper then you have just aquired an AR15. One well aimed shot from a single shot, muzzle loading, flintlock can be much more effective than 5 shots of spray and pray. One of the main purposes of a gun is to hunt for food and guns are easier to shoot than using a bow and arrow. Archery requires a lot more practice to become proficient than learning to shoot firearms.
If TSHTF, the factories that make ammunition won't be operating. Even if there is a huge amount of ammo out there now, it isn't infinite and even modern ammo has a shelf life. The knowledge and materials required to make blackpowder are much easier to get than for modern ammo. If a collapse was permanent, in 50 years, most of the guns in use could very well be the blackpowder types.
Don't count out blackpowder. 😉 😉

POINT I WAS MAKING WAS IF YOU NEEDED A BUG OUT FIREARM NOW AND DO NOT HAVE A PAL/RPAL , THIS IS A LEGAL WAY TO HAVE ONE. NOT TALKING ABOUT FIREFIGHTS WITH THE FOES. IF THAT WERE THE CASE, MY HIGH CAPACITY M1A WOULD HAVE BEEN MENTIONED. DON.T WANT TO GET OFF THE SUBJECT WHICH IS PREPPING FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE ABLE TO SURVIVE. AS TAZWEISS MENTIONS, WE MAY ALL END UP SHOOTING BLACK POWDER. DO YOU KNOW IF BLACK POWDER GETS WET, IT CAN BE DRIED( this has its dangers) AND ITS AS GOOD AS NEW. SMOKELESS POWDER TURNS INTO MUCK. A GROUP STATESIDE HAS BEEN SHOOTING BLACKPOWDER FROM A THE CIVIL WAR SU[PPLY. GO FIGURE. ONCE AGAIN, MABE THERE SHOULD BE A SUB GROUP WHO WANT TO DISCUSS FIREARMS FOR SURVIVAL. NO RAMBO B.S. THERE ARE LOTS OF FORUMS FOR THAT. ME, I.M NOT INTERESTED IN THAT. N.N.
My response to NOOTKA NICKs last post is that preppers don't store food to get ready for battle, we store it to be more self-sufficient if TSHTF. Preppers don't learn to garden in order to prepare for battle, we learn it to be more self-sufficient. Preppers don't can produce to be ready for battle, we do it to be more self-sufficient. Whenever the subject of firearms comes up though, it seems that the first thought is getting into a firefight. I have been in firefights and it's really not glamorous.
HUNTING
A good .308 with a 6 power scope - good for any big game in North America.
A good .223 or 22-250 with a 4 power scope - good for antelope or varmint game.
A good .22 with a 4 power scope - good for rabbits, muskrat, etc.
A good 12 guage - good for game birds.
I use scopes because I need reading glasses and can't focus on my sights.
Those I mentioned above aren't necessarily the ones I have but they are adequate for anything anybody will hunt on this continent. Having anything more than 4 long guns is either a waste of money or a hobby.
I agree NOOTKA NICK, lets sound off about what we have for hunting and why we chose it.

Actually, I have a very good recipe for muskrat.
Bring 4 liters of water to a rapid boil and add a half pound of cubed muskrat meat.
Reduce heat and simmer for 90 minutes then add a few of your favorite spices to taste.
Continue to simmer for another hour.
Remove the meat from the pot and bury it.
Then throw the broth down a deep hole (far from your water supply).
Finally, get rid of the pot because you'll probably never want to use it again.
I'm sure this recipe would agree with you N.N.

YES SIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now that odour. N.N
hi nick,
good read on your post. i am interested in looking down that road. my main protection in camp is an antique single shot shot gun, comforting for a one time threat at close range but as you guessed it just doesnt take care of extra needs. so i carry a mossberg 22, 12 shot with HV, HP. a huge question i have for you is when you are in the deep woods and isolated, legaly can you have a rifle without an fac for personal safety and protection? and back to the blackpowder now, they are single shot as well too? and the handguns are percussion shot? sorta. interesting thaught, how much does it take to learn the ins and outs, and how much equipment does one need to produce the shot? once you have the skills how portable is your equipment if you had to pack it along? thinking about a bug out situation for transportability. much like hoarse logging, black powder interested me..... I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE POSTS....
I think we've also all overlooked one important fact here -
In the event of a major incident such as the Great Quake, or solar flare, or socio-economic collapse, whatever it is...if it's serious enough to have to bug out or fortify, I highly doubt that there will be someone running around checking licenses.
Why in the hell would you want a flintlock rifle in a fire fight!? this isnt 1812 anymore!
