Let us say we have prepared as best we can, we have supplies, a planned evacuation route, a location to go to which we have located through our networking, very good planning overall. I see a danger for the prepper who has invested everything his budget could bear in locating his camper, tent, supplies etc. in a location that should be safe from the disasters we foresee. Everything depends on the security of that location. But things can still go awfully wrong.

If the person you are depending on should die, and the surviving family decides to move or sell or simply want the place back for themselves, you could be caught flatfooted. The problem is greatly lessened if a few simple procedures are followed:

Have a simple rental agreement listing the items stored and spell out clear terms by which the agreement can be terminated. Indicate that the rent is one dollar for the term of the agreement. If part of the agreement is that you are providing a stated number of hours of technical or sweat equity, spell that out too. The owner of the property should not be responsible for your property in the event of a fire. If it is a vehicle you are storing keep storage insurance on that vehicle it is cheap.

If you have put hours and hours of your time in as free labor to improve a property to ready it for community living, you could be left high and dry by an estate that does not recognize your verbal agreement with the deceased. A promissory note to be honoured only if you are asked to leave the property solves that problem.

I would never deal with a person who offers to let you store your property but is unwilling to put the agreement in writing. You don't need a lawyer, just a form from a bookstore and a witness to the signatures.

this sounds like a very practical solution to what could potentially be a big mess further down the road. Im behind this idea.

Agreed. It's just common sense to protect your interests, especially if there are mutual interests at stake.
