Hi Everyone.. New on the board here, and also new in the Williams Lake area.. Looking for other like minded people to chat and meet up with.. I've been prepping for a few years now, but it's all been on my own.. Now that I'm out of the big city and have moved to this area, I'd like to start meeting up with people who also like to be prepared.. It would be good to have some reliagble friends post-shtf should things come to that..

Anyone want to go shootin? 😀

Hello Airdawg. Welcome to the forum. You are the first to post Williams Lake as a heading. There are several preppers nearby. Feel free to drop me a line. It is just about gardening time!!

Good morning Gentlemen,

New to Preppers site. Have believed for some time now quietly, as I didn't think there were many around the area of Williams Lake. Look forward to talking and possibly meeting with you in the future.

Pitbull

There are many preppers around here simply because of the lifestyle we live here by choice. Many just don't realize that prepper is how we are described by many from outside the area. It shouldn't be hard to have a few get together to exchange ideas, resources, etc. Welcome to these posts pitbull.

There are lots of people in this area who read these posts but never reply. There are legitimate concerns of privacy and safety which I understand. Some have never heard the term prepping and do not know this network exists. Personal networking in addition to these posts will soon hook you up with the like-minded. Working together we can have free food, housing, available land for agriculture, etc. Everybody has something to offer, and everything offered is useful to someone.

Everyone is about to be very busy. Weather is devilish, some days I want to set out my seedlings, other days it is hailing. Oh well to the gardener hope springs eternal.

With an economic collapse looming, becoming debt free, growing and storing healthy organic food, teaming up with those who will share labor for that which they can't, or do not want to buy, will be critical and is foremost on the minds of my friends. There is an informal network now in the Williams lake area to help people get into a sustainable lifestyle that makes each of us less vulnerable to the unexpected, and it is moving toward something more structured. nothing flashy. We just quietly go about our networking. Barter is one of our key underlying principles. Co-operation saves $, and enables everyone to live well on lower incomes. There will be a get- to- know meeting shortly. If you are starting over because of "financial downsizing", new to prepping and don't know where to begin, already into prepping but don't have a secure situation or you want to acquire new skills; co-operative exchange of goods and services is the way to go. We don't use the internet to advertise as in a public barter exchange as these are open to certain failure and inconvenience and destroy the element of privacy. As an example of our own informal network, my wife cans some of our surplus garden for a guy who does repairs on our corral as needed, and another guy trades special "animal fat", used to soften saddles and boots, for potatoes which he can't grow because of the short growing season in his area. Lack of cash can be a stepping stone to new independence and creative healthy living. Good luck to all in the new growing season.

Where is there a good source of organic homemade butter and organic roasting chicken in the Williams Lake (20 mile radius) area?

No Cash, No Probem

I wanted to see if I could get by for five days without spending a cent. Started Sun. Now its Tuesday. Here’s the tally so far. I cheated and put a week’s gas in the car before my “research” started. My cable and hydro are not due until the end of the month so I am not counting those.

Have been heading into the salmon we canned last fall, and which I have been ignoring for awhile since we are getting tired of it. But that along with the ground moose meat, canned turkey soup etc. will keep me out of Safeway. Still have enough carrots, onions and potatoes to last until new ones are available. No shortage of food in the house. This part was easy.

But where did the craving come from to order in a pizza, then a wrestling match with myself not to go to Timmy’s to buy a cup of coffee and some of their oat cakes. I had coffee here at the house that I could have brewed. I won that one, but nearly bought the large heavy gauge steel frying pan on sale at Cdn Tire.

We don’t talk much about self-discipline in our posts. We still think in the old economy way.

This is great! Nice to see there are more of us around here than just me!! Not that I advertise that I’m a prepper out in the real world.. even to close friends in the past, I’ve found a lot of people equate prepper to hoarder, so I just keep my mouth shut about it. 
As for the barter.. I’d love to get in on that.. I’ve got an abundance of chicken.. yes, pasture raised organic, no antibiotic, etc etc... It wasn’t intentional, that’s just how I raised my birds. They turned out to be 7 ½ beauties.. but I butchered 46 of them.. problem is, I only eat about 10 per year. Same thing with my eggs from my other flock... way more than I need. So, I trade them with friends.. for a few kg’s of moose, or elk, or chili, or whatever they have that I’d be interested in.. It’s worked out so well, I’m planning on 200 birds this year. In reality, it all started just to see if I could actually raise a chicken without accidently killing it!!
Oh, and Chilcotin, REAL self discipline is not going to Canadian Tire (or reading their flyer) in the first place!! Now that’s hard to do...
Pitbull.. agree with the bbq and bonfire.. Lets get our gardens planted and set something up in a month or so.. Oh, and let’s add some target shooting to the list, too!

Doglover! Very glad of the opportunity to see you again. I will be at Timmy's. There is a considerable trade network developing around here. most of those I know are probably not free to get to the meeting. Some work and most are not on the preppers network. But I will fill you in on the considerable progress made since last summer. Hope you can get to a meeting in the Lower Mainland, even informally it would be great to connect with another network. Hopefully others on this forum I have not met will see the opportunity to join us. You are probably as busy as the rest of us. Rotten weather through April, and now with temps. in the low 20's everything has to be done at once. It is the things out of the mainstream in news reporting that can sneak up on us in the blink of an eye. Anyone following the Israeli attacks on Syria, and the implications on gasoline prices?

Oh yes Ive been following somewhat. I think Syria has officially declared war on Israel if I understand it, and has even shot down a couple Israel jets supposedly. The bombs Israel dropped were depleted uranium weapons, and some of their targets include allegedly Iranian missles being transported to Lebanon. I think that whole area is erupting!!!
