Topic starter

I'm looking for opinions on the best field guides for southern Ontario, On the following topics:
Mushrooms edible and poisonous
Wild edible and poisonous plants and roots
tree and shrub identification guide

I've been shopping around on Amazon for some time now and all available books seem to have some discouraging reviews so I would like to hear what some of you own and what would be the best to have if you were to have only 1 on each topic..

I know it would be best to have a selection of different books on each topic but I need to have a small set of field guides to store in my hiking pack/BOB..

Cheers

I use several books on most of those subjects but I stay away from the mushrooms.

I have done a lot of reading over the years plus when I was small my grandfather took the time to teach me a lot. The one book that I use most often is "The Herb Book by John Lust"

Another book I use is Wild Roots, A foragers guide to the edible and medicinal roots, tubers, corms, rhizomes of north America. I do not think any single I have seen addresses all items. I am sure one of the others will have a better idea.

One more to add. A modern herbal by mrs m grieve

Good photos and descriptions are essential.

A good book for edible and medicinal wilds is Wild Medicinal Plants by Anny Schneider
