Since I can not personally see it, it must be a conspiracy. I am taking someones word for it that asteroids exist I guess. Thanks for clearing that up WildE, I dont know what I was thinking. 😉

When the main stream media gives it air time it is time to pay-attention...

Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...

In true media style they describe this as a "Huge asteroid". Actually coming in at only 48m it is quite small. Still if it did hit (which it won't) you would not want to be underneath it. 🙂

Ok I just checked again and Nasa have issued "Urgent astrometry request" and have posted the relevant data.
http://echo.jpl.nasa.gov/asteroids/2012DA14/2012DA14_planning.html

I guess they want to get as much accurate data as they can as 2012DA14 makes this close pass. 🙄

Just a little update... http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/02/11/150-foot-asteroid-has-close-encounter-with-earth-this-week/

The story goes that the "near miss" will be 17,200 miles away. That doesn't seem too close until you consider that numerous satellites are 5,000 miles farther out. It is not believed that any satellites will be hit.

For those who wonder 'What if it did strike earth?' http://www.livescience.com/27000-flyby-asteroid-da14-tunguska.html

A tin foil hat just wouldn't be enough protection for this one. 😆

Not confirmed to be the "near miss" expected, but still some crazy news.

You can bet a lot of Russians are happy it wasn't the big rock. At the same time it's a little warning of what can happen and I don't think it's something you can prepare for if you are at ground zero.

I caught a descriptive story on Yahoo news about what would happen if the near miss asteroid was headed for Toronto. Lets just say I'm glad it missed.

I posted an article and a nice picture in this thread in the Ontario section on the same topic.
http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3134&p=35378#p35378

It is a very nice picture of what could happen if the Earth was 15 mins faster or the Asteroid 15 min slower by the way.
Soo will any more bits of Rock hit us today and tomorrow or was that just a very quick Hello this is the Universe calling message?

Not a big one, only about 10 tons but it was an eye opener for many. If you haven't seen it on the news check it out at :
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2013/02/15/russia-meteorite/1921991/
or
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-21468116 #

Still there was close to 1000 people injured by flying glass. A natural reaction, you see a ball of fire in the sky and rush to the window to look at it. Then bang!

NASA has a live feed of the flyby starting at 2pm EST (you can see site from here): http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2013/feb/HQ_M13-031_Asteroid_Flyby_Coverage.html

Of course, I expect we'll be watching a taped recording in case one of the GOES weather satellites get's tapped. Can you even imagine the panic if we saw a piece of space junk get hit live? 😯

If life hands you lemons, be sure you have a battery backed up juicer to make some good ol' fashioned lemonade! 😉
