Well, we got a rumble and a few broken canning jars, Dh in the downtown had the building sway.. did you feel it and if so.. any effects on the house or area?
Nope, didn't feel a thing, but i'm quite a ways away from Shawville!
Hmmm, 20% destruction looks quite bad in the picture! 😀
Another one in the area yesterday near Rigaud, Qc...3.4
Did it knock over any more chairs? 😆
Didn't even wake up the cat!
I did not feel it, but I recently read that the fault line thats around the Ottawa river is more serios than previously thought, which could be bad news if a big quake took place because the buildings & bridges around Ontario and Quebec don't have earthwake engineering and construction because everyone always figuref there is little earthquake worries.
HAHAHA...
Quebec right now has a really bad reputation when it comes to bridges, highway overpasses, etc...seems that the road network is literally crumbling.
But you raise a good point...
This is one of the reasons I moved from Montreal to my BOL about 2 1/2 years ago.
Montreal, being an island, would seem to be a bad place to be in the event of a major quake.
That being said, there is a huge barrier between north and south here in the eastern part of the country, being the St-Lawrence River.
I understand that in the event of a quake, living north of the river, I may be cut off from anything on the south side.
Of course there are more places to cross the river than just in Montreal, but would I be willing to use that much fuel to get to one?
It certainly is something to think about when planning bug out routes, etc...
Are there maps of known faults available? I'd be interested to know where our major and minor fault lines our, particularly in Southern Ontario.
