Hi,
Could anyone please comment (preferably, from their own experience 😉 ) on why Mylar bags could be better for long-term food storage than the FoodSaver ones?
One aspect is obvious: Mylar bags are reflective, hence eliminating the problem of direct sunlight (or any other light for this purpose). But let's be realistic: most of preps are stored in "dry, cool, dark places" (like they write on the prescription meds 😀 ), and on top of that, they're likely to end up in closed buckets of a sort.
On the other hand, FoodSaver sucks the air out of the bag quite well, before sealing it - so you don't need (?) to put oxygen absorber packs into the bags.
So?
Any opinions?
Thanks for your input! 😎
I use the heavy duty 5 ply bags and through in a small oxygen absorber in the bag before I remove the air and seal the bags. I use mine predominantly for my beef and fish jerky. Never had an issue, for me the extra .15 cents isn't an issue.
