Most of my Emergency Food Preps are Freeze Dried in sealed #10 Cans with a Shelf life of 7 - 25 years.

Once these cans are opened most have a Shelf life of 1 to 2 years which isn't bad.

My Question here, is there any way to reseal opened Freeze Dried Product that will extend its Shelf life back to or close to its original pre-opened Shelf life?

Kind of a poorly worded question, but would simply Vacuum sealing the opened product achieve this?

Any opinions or Info. Appreciated 🙂

Thanks

I would put opened #10 in Mason Jars using a food saver vacuum seal
I would think it would not extend to 25 years but it should help to go longer than 1 - 2 years .
Probably the trick is to not open them all at once, which means less variety
at any one time.

I would choose a mason jar size to match the amount of leftovers.
ie: 250mL / 500mL / 1L

so that there is less oxygen in the mason jar.

You might even add one O2 absorber

In a real SHTF , you may not want to open them all up if you don't have
any hydro to use the vacuum sealer, or no more O2 absorbers , if you are not going
to be able to use them fast enough. Depends probably how many people there are
to consume them . Singles will have to be more aware of this and not open
a huge variety at one time.

But you could still store the leftovers in a SHTF in a suitable sized mason jar
and store it back daily after use in a dark cupboard

Speaking of which I don't think the plastic lid for the #10 is a very tight seal
so storing the extra leftovers in a mason jar really might be better if they
can be kept from the light in a dark cupboard.

You could also reseal them in a small mylar with oxygen absorber.
