If this has already been covered, maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

We are looking to convert somewhere between 1/2 to full acre of our land into our garden this year. Does anyone in rural areas have some advice for any fence or other deterrents you use to keep deer, rodents, pets from eating your hard work as it grows? 😮

If life hands you lemons, be sure you have a battery backed up juicer to make some good ol' fashioned lemonade! 😉

Put up deer fencing around the property. It comes in roll out netting and you have to put the posts in yourself, once the posts are in it goes up very quickly! It is also fairly inexpensive.

Deer will jump over a tall fence easily but they don't like being in small areas. Fence the garden and string some white tapes to make it look like very small fenced off portions.
I read about a guy who strung fishing line about 4' high. Apparently the deer can feel it but not see it, creeps them out.

sounds gross but my cousin puts up small bags of human hair (taken from a hair brush) and makes her hubby pee outside once in a while....she says it keeps the deer away

What about rabbits and raccoons?

American Rat Terrier dogs. Dedicated little varmit hunters. They work well in teams. Get girls so they don't pee all over your veggies.

around these parts, elk fencing does the trick. It is 7' high, and the squares are fairly small at the bottom (easily small enough to keep out rabbits) and get gradually bigger as you move up. This stuff is pretty effective. We use homemade cedar posts (don't think there is cedar in Ontario - but delimb the tree, skin it, and char the part that will be underground - the posts will outlast the fence)
