Not in a city (small country town in the bush) but I plan to bug in unless the emergency is bushfire - I have no intention of ending up "crispy" so we will be out of here so fast.....

Bugging in. No way I can get my critters out and I won't leave them. Furry kids 🙂

depends on what happens.
Category 2 hurricane hits? I am outta here!
Economic collapse? Virus? I am staying in.
I always have at least half a tank of gas in the car (which gets me about 250km) and my BOL is 400-450 km or a full tank away (depending on which way we have to take)! I could not take all of my preps with me so I would be upset about that but, staying put is the number 1 plan. (for now)

Bugging out. BOL is pretty much set up and on my own I can make it in three to four days on foot. Double that at least, if I have an entourage, which I probably will. Since niner D and I are in the city there's no way I intend to bug in. Too many security issues. Besides, there are too many people depending on me to be there when the crunch comes.

We are ready for either, but would prefer to bug in. We have several places to go, are pretty hard core outdoors people, and have all the gear/supplies, etc.

But we aren't planning on an "end of the world" scenario, our evacuation would only be in the case of a disaster like flooding, wild fires etc. We'd be just fine if we had no home to return to, but hope we will.

If the "end of the world" does come (e.g collapse of government and society as we know it), we're as ready for that as we can be as well. We just don't think that way. Humanity has overcome so many obstacles throughout history, and the worst of it was the Dark Ages, and we could certainly live through that with our skill set.

I guess the answer will depend on the 2 factors:
1. Your current dwelling.
2. The nature of the emergency.

If you live at a farm, in rural areas - there will probably have to be VERY serious reasons for you to move further into the hinterlands.
Large cities are a completely different story, though...

I'd say that if the S that HTF is serious enough for the local law enforcement and municipal services to collapse - I'm gone.
One of the reasons that I haven't seen anyone mentioning here is the way the houses are built now.
Most (if not all) of the houses built on the land (as opposed to the high rises) are built of wood, with some stone-like decorations outside... Which means that if (or should I say "when") a fire starts - it will swallow whole neighbourhoods in a matter of hours, assuming the water supply is off, the fire-fighting services are paralysed, the streets are congested with traffic and rubbish... You get the picture.
And with all the new developments being built so close one house to another that a cat can hardly squeeze between them... We're talking about neighbourhoods, suburbs and cities going up in flames. At which stage high-rise buildings will not be any safer.
So, yeah, when this S HTF - I'm getting the hell out of the population clusters. Now I only to decide where to crash 😉

The type of emergency will determine if you're going to bug in or bug out. Big bad snow storm and you won't be going anywhere. A forest fire is a good time to leave. You need to be prepared for both, with food, water, and supplies for both. If you are planning on bugging out but don't have a destination already supplied with survival items and inventory, you're buggered.
